That assessment is realistic. How could any assessment be optimistic, really?

They are, after all, 2-0, having played teams from superior conferences, albeit Rice is not a strong team. But these are games the team under Jerome would have lost.

I still think they have to be favored to finish in the top 4, no?

Sure, but in terms of this year I think making the Ivy tourney and winning a game in it would be a job well done considering who we lost from last year plus being out Williams and Betley.

Meanwhile, so far none of the teams we've played has yet won a DI game. If Rice doesn't get the job tonight (vs Alabama A&M, dead last in KenPom--even ahead of our good neighbors Delaware State) that might not happen for a long, long while this year, if at all.

That's an interesting question. This team is mentally tough--the last two games of last season (Harvard and Kansas) surely showed that.

We will probably be able to win some Ivy games with that toughness (an occasional made FT or two would also help). But at some point, the basketball talent on the floor might be too much to overcome. If we finish 1st or 2nd I would be completely shocked.

My bad--was looking at the end of last year's Ken Pom.

Delaware State is back in its usual last place Ken Pom perch as of today--Alabama A&M is 2 slots above it.

While you may be right, I think you are completely underestimating what is either the best or second best frontcourt in the League. And if Antonio is healthy, we only have one question-mark position.

I think you are far too pessimistic. And we have the best coach.
