I'll start a thread for tomorrow's game. Don't know much about their squad this year, but KP has them at around 274. Despite that, they just beat La Salle, at La Salle so clearly can't take them lightly.
Any word yet on if Woods will be able to play? If we are down yet another starter, who fills in?
Expect Silpe will be the biggest beneficiary of more mins, but wonder if we have to go a bit bigger for stretches with more time for Wang or maybe a little more run for Scott?

I think Washington's minutes will steadily progress. Clearly, the coaches like him. He wasn't brilliant in game 2, but was better than in game 1. We should expect him to continue to get better.

Oh yeah sorry I should have been clear that I expect Washington to start as a given based on current circumstances. But, if Woods also is out tomorrow, that puts us down a second starter so I’m wondering who would fill that gap.

If they are selling the dogs off the grill on the West end stand, that's a great deal.
But probably, they will be cold, rubbery, previously microwaved dogs sold from a counter

Usually I consider depth to be overrated, as it's harder to use your deep bench than it looks to amateurs. But I think this coach might know how to do it. We'll see if this holds up against better competition.

I think this is working better than previously for Steve (even with these same guys). Two years ago when we would play a million guys toward the end of the first half, we always looked pretty bad. Tonight, at least in the first half, the extended run for some backups worked great.
We just look a lot deeper than our opponents. Not much tentative play right now — like last year, this looks like a group that buys in. The backups don’t generally look like they’re trying to do too much — instead they look like they know exactly what their role is.
These first 3 may not have been the toughest opponents, but it is fun to beat the teams you are supposed to beat, and at least tonight, beat them a lot more convincingly than we were supposed to.

Man that was fun. And not long ago, an opening 3 with a road game against an A-10, a home against an C-USA and Lafayette would be 1-2 at best.
Our top 8 are so much better than I would have expected given the Betley injury. I am really optimistic--we can post, shoot the 3, and play really tough D. Goodman is a revelation.
Too bad we don't have another home game for a week and a half and then it's Atlantic City U. But all I can say is that Donahue is a genius.

I'm going to have to watch the game on replay when I get home, but one observation I have from the box score and the board commentary is that this will not be a year of a fixed bench rotation. We will have our core four, but after that Donahue will play the matchup and somehow get the right contributions from different players. In the first game, Wang was a monster and Hamilton made strong contributions. Against Rice, Washington and Silpe stepped up. In this game, it appears that Simmons was huge.
It doesn't seem ordained that any of these guys will see a lot of time in any particular matchup, but all seem poised to get time. I won't be surprised if these guys, Donahue, Scott, Imegwu, and others wind up to be the heroes in a particular game. This team seems poised to continue the selfless "next man up" attitude that they demonstrated last year.
Finding a consistent pattern in the rotation would make things easier for us pundits - but this team seems content to play as a selfless whole in their own style.

Like the way Donahue is handling mistakes right now too. Hamilton and Silpe are now getting to play through mistakes. Simmons got pulled for a short chat last night, and then was put right back in the game a minute later. Nice to see Ray Jerome for an extended run when it mattered as well.

Our group was commenting last night that this was the first time we recall Ray Jerome getting first half minutes (perhaps in the Div 3 game). Clearly, the first insertion of subs didn't work, as we blew that 17-6 lead, but as soon as the starters were re-inserted and got the 10 point lead back, everyone played pretty well. There is a huge difference in defense with the young guys right now, but they can shoot the 3, which is very very encouraging.

I don't know anything specific but I would be very surprised if Donahue doesn't shorten the rotation significantly come January. This strikes me as trying a bunch of new stuff and see what the pieces are. He did this in his first year or two a lot before he really knew what he had. With Ryan out, there are now only 3 returning starters from last year so the minutes are more up for grabs early.
I think he will settle on his 7 or 8 guys by the time we get to the Ivy's.

This is a good point.
As to January, I think we will see 8-9 man rotations. Why? Because he can and we have already seen the impact of fresh legs late in games against teams that cannot match our depth. I also think it won’t be the same 9 guys every game as matchups are exploited.

Last night was a great performance but I don't think we should get too optimistic about our depth when matched up against a team that KenPom has at #293. Yes, the guys all played well and it's certainly encouraging, but keep in mind that Lafayette is 45 spots below Dartmouth (#248). The Jam should provide a better gauge of where the team stands.

Agree. Think we'll see something akin to last year where the first 6 players were set in stone and the last 1-3 players would vary any given game based on matchups.
Right now it looks like :
Solid : AJ, Antonio, Max, Dev
Inside track : Mike, Jake, Bryce
Everyone else needs to make a case. Tyler has been getting minutes and maybe he slots in with the inside track guys. I'm rooting for Jarrod to build on yesterday's performance.

Again, the most noticeable difference between the starters and 2nd team was defense. Twice, the second team allowed 10-0 runs. The first team kicked their butts all over the court and never allowed them to breathe.

I would be disappointed if we don't beat Northern Iowa in the opener in St Thomas. That doesn't mean we will, as NI doesn't turn the ball over much (last year 11.4x a game and 10x this year through 2 games). They also aren't a great assist team and go one on one a lot. They had 8 assists in their loss to UT Arlington and averaged just under 11 a game.
If we beat them, Kansas State likely awaits, an elite 8 team and KP #21. That will be a fun test.
