Story: http://thefeatphilly.com/2018/11/13/hooper-the -sto...

Also: side note, we actually changed the entire scope of our site. Formerly known as The Empire, we will now go by The Feat to represent our new focus on longform journalism. We got a lot out of writing those longer pieces on Darnell and Matt Howard earlier this year and we decided to dedicate our site to this kind of immersive journalism. Hoping to emulate Sports Illustrated type stories for college basketball in Philadelphia. We're always looking for new story ideas, so if you have any suggestions, let us know! In the meantime, hope you enjoy the new site and our story on Jackson.

Make sure to follow us on Twitter for updates: https://twitter.com/thefeatphilly

Nice piece. Thanks for taking the time to write it. The only issue I have is not mentioning his shot 2 seasons ago to beat Harvard and send Penn into the first Ivy Tourney.

I saw that shot mentioned. Great article. Thanks for sharing it.

You did? Where?

  • Quote:
During Jackson’s sophomore year, Penn had their best record in five years at 13-15. Hope of Ivy League honors were gone as Jackson wondered how he could even find time on the floor. His role had done a one-eighty.

Again, the piece was a great one, but he will probably be remembered most for that shot when all is said and done. Maybe I keep missing it...

Look up a bit, it's there. You're in the right paragraph.

Nice article, Benjamin. You're right in focusing on pieces like this.

"In the coming weeks, he would regain a more consistent role, even hitting a clutch three pointer with seconds remaining to send Penn to their first Ivy League tournament."

I’m losing it.

I’m probably hyper-sensitive because I watched that shot at least 40 times. When all you have is a Tyler Bernardini charge in ten years, you hold s special place for a shot that brought us out of darkness, even if it was only thanks to an Ivy Tourney.

Welp, I still had the old story up on my tabs and I'm not too thrilled with being hung out to dry and being made to look like i'm losing it...This is from the version I still have open:

  • Quote:
"In the coming weeks, he would regain a more consistent role, but the volume from freshman year was gone. The team was deep with productive guards and they were winning. During Jackson’s sophomore year, Penn had their best record in five years at 13-15. Hope of Ivy League honors were gone as Jackson wondered how he could even find time on the floor. His role had done a one-eighty."

I'm glad that my suggestion was incorporated, but to not comment here, even as people were saying I'm wrong, is not a great look. Maybe he hasn't been back to this thread but either way, I am officially NOT crazy.

What, exactly, makes your not-craziness 'official?'
Do you have some sort of certificate? Perhaps a letter from an accredited psychiatrist? Any sort of documentation? If not, I'm not sure where you get off saying it's official. You really can't just bandy terms like that around indiscriminately.

I thought that providing both quotes was enough documentation. Maybe if Benjamin pops back to admit the err in his ways?

In all seriousness, I want more of these features so I'm just messing with you, Ben.

"I thought that providing both quotes was enough documentation."

How do we know that the "original" quotation isn't a doctored version? This smells a little bit like the Acosta assault tape from the White House press room.

If this site let me share a screen shot, I happily would. I promise that I have not doctored, slowed down or misled in any way! I guess I only have to wait a few days for the real truth to emerge, like with Acosta...

Sorry guys, this is my first chance I have had to respond. Initially, I actually had a whole section dedicated to Jackson's sophomore year shot against Harvard. Decided to take it out in the final revision. I saw Quakers03's comment on the first day and thought "damn I forgot to re-add that." Threw in that line about the shot after.

So I can confirm, Quakers03 is not crazy haha.

Appreciate the love though. Also, if anyone has any story ideas, let me know. I'm serious -- I want to include you guys in the process as well. I want to tell stories that you're interested in reading.

Sweet, sweet vindication.

The first of many coming on these boards.

As for stories, the Mt. Hermon connection (including our newest recruit); with Fran retiring, a 25-year look back at his first title team, one that won 48-straight ivy games (you have Donahue and Nat right there); Steve’s 3-point line philosophies...I’ll keep thinking.

Another story angle I would find interesting is how Jelani Williams has persevered through rehabbing two ACL injuries, and his dedication to making it back to the court.
