Kimbal and to a lesser degree Bruce need just a little support until their superstar mode kicks in. Otherwise they play flat. Maybe Sotos will provide that spark from here on in.
This team is getting into a pattern of playing from behind. Exciting, but risky at the same time.
They uncharacteristically threw in the towel the last 30 seconds of the game. I didn't like that.

Robertson djd a nice job slashing to the hoop with his athleticism and also was willing to bang underneath. While the defense SUCKED in the first half, Canisius made every contested 3 too. Sometimes the hoop looks like a hot tub and that’s just basketball.

Sotos pressed sometimes but to have a PG capable of filling it up like he can is great.

BTW does anyone remember what Badmus stat line was in the Kansas upset? 2 points, 11 assists and 0 turnovers. I watched a highlight real on YouTube and totally forgot how important Abe was to that team. The unsung hero really.

Stats said Canisius was 8-13 on 3’s in the first half. I must’ve turned my head on the 5 misses.

(Read with a sarcastic voice.) Oh, you are supposed to make Free Throws!!! Watching the Bison shoot, I wasn't sure.

As for Moore's game, I, in addition to some people above, am disappointed. I thought that he would be much more polished at this point. He definitely has the physical ability to be a major factor in games, but he seems lost when he plays on both O and D. Is this the player, or is it coaching?

On the other hand, I am pleasantly surprised with Newman. After last year, I was not expecting much. He previously looked like a below the rim, somewhat out of shape player who relied on size to overcome competition. Now, he looks like he really hit the weight room, is playing above the rim, and has lots of upside. His shot blocking ability is completely unexpected.

Learn to shoot free throws, come out and play D from the beginning, and this team will be fine. These are coaching issues.

GO BISON!

Repeating myself but if Newman improves this much to start next year he’ll be the best center in the PL. His defense is lacking and a short jumper would be a nice addition.

Moore and Toomer were and have been non factors all season. I really thought Avi would blow up this year too but at this point he has shouldered any of the load expected of a 3rd year starter. And I’m sorry but Moore looks completely lost.

Canisius lost in their home opener today to Albany by 9.

6-30 from 3 and 14-25 from the line

As opposed to 10-22 on threes vs the Bison, and 20-25 from the line. Had they shot the same pct against Bucknell, they end up with 21 fewer points.

Hard to say how much is defense on the threes and how much is randomness. I do know that Albany didn't defend the three well at all vs Boston U. I also know it wasn't the defense that made them shoot 80% from the line vs the Bison and 56% vs Albany.

Tough to play the comparison game. Just too many variables. Army was down 6 to Duke with 11 minutes left at Cameron. They lost to Sacred Heart yesterday. Bottom line is you have to come to play for 40 minutes every opportunity. Element of human nature involved. Every game is also a contest of individual matchups within the game. How well do you defend if you’re big and the other guys are playing predominantly with 4 guards. So much preparation that goes into taking away what the other team wants to do. Question of whether or not you actually have the personnel to achieve it depends on how well you do/don’t match up. Shooting is sometimes just missing and sometimes the other guy being “all up in your life” as one ESPN announcer famously said. Also, if you’re confidence is shaky then the balls not going in (ie, Avi 2-11 FTA). We have confidence issues w/o Nate on the floor. Additional problem of our best defenders not being our best scorers. Issue there is whether that baked in or whether it’s just something we’re seeing in the short term. If it’s baked in then you have some philosophy and personnel decisions you’re going to have to make and play through. Bottom line is you have to come to play every minute every night or you have problems. How does FU score 40 in the 1st half and 20 in the second? How does Canisius score 48 in the first half? Did we really having any right beating Colgate down 10 with a minute left. How do you almost lose that game by 10 and come back and beat the same team by 29 two weeks later. Not easy being a Coach. Hope the guys are all getting along with their girlfriends...good a place to start as any 😁

Nothing new, but we’re going to have a difficult time containing athletic players that also have basketball skills. To me, Canisius had several good athletes that were also hitting shots. We had a struggle against a quick, athletic freshman from Fairfield (on a side note, if we had even average offense that game we win...that loss is still a bad one). Given our defensive approach, we have to have decent athletes to be successful. Maybe we have them, maybe not. But I agree that it is a mindset as well.

Early on, Bucknell is the only win for both Fairfield and Canisius. Granted Canisius played two difficult opponents, but they were handled. Still am more disappointed with the Fairfield performance overall. With a difficult schedule coming up, I hope the Bison can improve and maybe get a few wins.

Husky, you have posted here for awhile. This is the Patriot League. It would be unique news if the officiating was good or average.

Its wouldn't bother me to see Mr. Davis show more emotion to motivate this team.

Davis has shown much more emotion than in years past I assure you that. He has been much more vocal. I believe the past couple years he left the big three take care of much of that. I was concerned going into this season but he has stepped it up big time! He has shown moments of when DP was the coach.
