Bison63 and others have commented on the level of play in the first half vs the second half. Here are a few stats that show how dramatic it is:

For each half: score; 2-pointers (made and att.), 3-pointers, FT's; opponent FG %

ALL GAMES (TOTAL):

1st Half: 111-153 Score (-42); 27-62 (43.5%) on twos, 13-47 (27.7%) on threes, 18-35 (51.4%) on FT; 48.6% opp. FG pct.

2nd Half: 177-135 (+42) Score; 38-63 (60.3%) on twos, 19-50 (38.0%) on threes, 44-61 (72.1%) on FT's; 34.8% opp. FG pct.

So in the second half, the Bison have an 84 point better scoring margin relative to the first half. Also shooting pct goes up by 16.8% on twos, by 10.3% on threes, and by 20.6% on FT's. And their opponents' FG pct drops by 13.6%.

BY GAME:

Bona 1st Half: Score 31-35; 2-pointers: 6-10; 3-pointers 5-15; FT's 4-8; Opp. FG pct: 51.7%
Bona 2nd Half(&OT): 57-50; 13-21, 4-12, 19-28; 45.2%

Fairfield 1st Half: 28-38; 8-21, 2-10, 6-12; 60.9%
Fairfield 2nd Half: 30-22; 7-13, 3-11, 7-10; 23.1%

Canisius 1st Half: 32-48; 7-15, 5-13, 3-8; 53.3%
Canisius 2nd Half: 41-34; 9-12, 5-13, 8-12; 37.0%

Vermont 1st Half: 20-32; 6-16, 1-9, 5-7; 51.4%
Vermont 2nd Half: 49-29; 9-14, 7-14, 10-11; 32.2%

137, the numbers tell an interesting story. The Bison come out very cold to start games. Is there possibly something that the Bison are not doing, should be doing, or doing wrong during their warm-up or pregame ritual? Also, are the coaches doing something different at halftime that motivates the players?
New season, new team, new dream . . .

Don't know about halftime, but the pregame warmups are virtually identical to what they have done the past few years.

Also seems to indicate the basic game plan they practice potion to a game may not be what is actually needed. Could scoring be an issue? I am curious about these stats throughout all of college basketball. Is almost believe that offense might be “easier” in first halves because most teams adjust defenses in the second halves. Only thing is that often teams shoot more FT’s in second halves if losing teams foul intentionally.

1st vs. 2nd half scoring was an issue last year as well. I think there were 8 games we won after trailing at halftime. There were only 2 losses after leading at halftime (Lehigh & Maryland). In nearly every game we scored more points in the 2nd half than the 1st, again Md being the notable exception.

Games are won in the second half. Hopefully they can figure out how to keep the halftime deficits to 4-8 instead of 10-15. Make the 2nd half work a little easier.
