As the article notes, teams are penalized heavily for home losses. Let's hope we rectify that on Wednesday.

Win against SB, which we thought was good, not looking so good now that they are 0-5 vs D1. Only win is non D1. A home loss to a team (Canisius) that has lost their other 5 games is also a killer.

Not the case. Bona beat Jackson St., a D1 program. Granted, not a very good D1 program but D1 nonetheless.

Also, the win will almost certainly look better over time. Bona has 5 guys out injured and is down to 7 scholarship players including its two best returning players from last year. With a couple of exceptions, the remainder of its OOC schedule is reasonably tough so the record is unlikely to greatly improve soon, but it should tick up as these guys return.

One thing to remember is that this ranking replace the RPI, which always produced Bizzarre results until at least mid January. It is no better than the RPI, but it is also no worse. By February, the rankings will look more reasonable.

the one edit BRW made in this from auhoops post was to remove the "(what!?)" from after the 295 Bucknell line. I kind of liked the sentiment it added.
Ray Bucknell!

I stand corrected, res, but for now the point still holds. Hopefully Bona starts climbing in the ratings once they get back to something resembling full strength.

Ha, I did too, but thought people would attribute it to me.

I wonder what beating NET #1 Ohio State in Columbus would do to the results.

That should boost our NET ranking some, lol. That's a game I believe we can win. We'll need a much better first half performance to do so, but I think we match up well with them.

Interesting look at how the NET rankings are playing out, and what behaviors they are incentivizing:

Quite a gap for the Bison:
RPI: 91
NET: 152

Well that’s discouraging for a program like ours. We already have a hard enough time scheduling because the big schools don’t want to risk losing to us.

RPI is considerably easier to incentivize. I don't trust NET since we know little of the details. wrt the Bison, however, it's reasonably consistent with kenpom and Sagarin, though slightly less favorable.

Can anybody explain to me these interesting kenpom.com rankings:

#58 Penn State 9-15
#71 Illinois 9-15

New season, new team, new dream . . .

So I can’t say why they are so high but both have been playing well lately. Illinois is really really young and have started to figure it out. They beat mich state last week and I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat ohio state tonight.

Penn State, their record looks bad but like all their losses are by like 5 or less. Kind of ridiculous actually. Plus I’m sure the michigan win the other day helped.

Penn State is also rated #58 in kenpom. Why? Close losses and a few wins against the 4th ranked strength of schedule.
