I'd like to get back to that concentration on MAAC teams rather than teams like Delaware State to fill out the schedule.

No surprise here, but once again we agree...

Well... let's wait a second on what a ratings killer is anymore. Thus far, it seems like the teams that are outperforming most are those that have killed it against bad schedules (not just winning, but winning by a lot to post gaudy raw efficiency differentials). If that's true, then winning huge at Delaware St. might not be the ratings killer it used to be. In fact, it might provide a solid boost.

The NET update for this morning isn't posted yet, but we'll have to see where Penn ends up after that result is included.

Very well, let's just call them interest killer games, then.

"I'm seeing Penn -19.5 We should be able to cover, yes? Chuck Daly visited me last night and told me that both Michael Wang and Bryce Washington are going to score their uniform numbers. But Mark Jackson won't. Still should be enough... "

Didn't see the game last night because I was playing tennis (and this might have been mentioned on the broadcast), but Coach said after the game that Wang would have played a lot more last night but he was sick during the game.

I've noticed that the two freshmen who are getting a lot of PT both seem to be pretty good FT shooters. J. Simmons also shoots them well. It's possible that the coaches are trying to solve this problem by recruiting it away.

BTW, I'm also delighted to see two 'shmen playing a key role.

Being in an airport for 24 hours the week before probably didn't help.

Bryce Washington is currently shooting ~56% from 3, which probably means he needs to start taking more 3s.

SO happy to be done with these mostly useless games. I long for the days when we could ridicule PU for scheduling them.

At least we didn't lose to any of them.

I don't think they are useless especially when you've lost a top player for the season and you're trying to get some newbies and others that haven't had extensive PT in past years comfortable on the court.

Perhaps top 50 teams think playing Ivy League teams useless. Note that Big 10 teams are playing 20 in conference games this year. I think you'll see this trend proliferating in the power conferences. It's going to be harder and harder to schedule name opponents in the future. They'd rather beat each other up in front of 20,000 fans than play a mid major in what they probably consider to be nothing more than a filler game. We obviously view such a game much differently.

asia, they don't have to play the right side of the distribution tail, just don't play the left side.

of course this stupid net rating thing may make that challenging.

I can understand scheduling one cupcake after the finals layoff, but, as Jeff points out, do we have to go to D-3 teams?

I'm always suspicious of those sorts of arguments. It's likely that he's shooting it so well because he's taking smart shots. Donahue really emphasizes good decision making in his system, and we certainly don't want players to be forcing things.

Yes. A better argument is that he should play more minutes and he will subsequently get more shots. As his defense and understanding improves, this will likely happen.

He's taken 7 more 3s than Jackson in 70 more minutes. That seems like someone who's not using enough volume considering no other starter is even at 40% from 3 right now.

In order to schedule a 30th game this year? The answer is "yes".

Yeah, this. Earlier in their careers Foreman and Woods were rightly getting critiqued for their shooting...they were forcing it up a lot leading to a lot of misses. They both learned over time how to pick their spots within the offense. A very good sign if Washington even in his freshman year understands this.

Plus, he appears from the start to be a more natural shooter than either of them.

He is a good shooter. My impression is he needs to get a little stronger and work on his timing going to the hoop. He may just need some experience at this level but hopefully can add that to his game to keep the defense from overplaying him.
