Penn won tonight 65-34, and it really wasn't that close. The Explorers are dreadful: incompetent and selfish. This was typified by one freshman guard named Janay Sanders, who went 1-10 with 1 assist and 3 TO's, and was a bit thuggish to boot. Eleah Parker's mom tells me that she's been playing Sanders since 7th grade in the Charlotte area, and Eleah's team has won every time. La Salle shot 16% from the floor, 23% from 3, and 44% from the line; the numbers in the second and third quarters, when they had a combined total of six points, were 2-29, 0-14, and 2-5 respectively. Penn outrebounded them 54-34 and had 16 assists to 7 for LS. All 17 players who dressed for the Quakers got at least four minutes. All that being said, we had 21 turnovers ourselves, and the guard play is still at a lower level than to begin the year, which is not a good sign. Someone needs to step it up there. Nevertheless, the Big 5 is winnable; Temple is not very good themselves, and Villanova has run up a decent record, but against a so-so schedule. On that note, I'll close with one more indicator of the difference McLaughlin has made to this program; he now has as many Big 5 wins (14) as all other Penn coaches combined.

This one was on locally and I looked up 5 times in 15 minutes and LaSalle hadn't moved from 19 points.
