Aaron Roussell announced a four-player recruiting class last month:
- Tai Johnson, a 5-8 PG from Mars PA, north of Pittsburgh.
- Brooke Mullin, a 5-11 SG from Neshaminy PA.
- Carly Krsul, a 6-1 SF/PF from Minnesota.
- Emma Shaffer, a 6-2 PF/C from Ursuline OH, daughter of former Bison star Kirsten Ellison, one of the all-time leading Bison rebounders.
Will try to use this thread to update how the four are doing in HS play.

Link to article on Brooke Mullin posted on other thread by KenZ: http://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/sports/2018...
Also Carly Krsul scored her 1000th career point last week. Also had a game with 8 blocked shots, maybe the same one.

saw this ranking of 2019 recruiting classes to date. curious as to any thoughts as to the reliability of the rankings for the PL recruits. guess i would be rather disappointed if they are accurate as i assumed we would be doing relatively better.

At the midmajor level, I think the rankings have no reliability at all. The boys rankings have at least some validity because there are hundreds of services and scouts who follow the players. Only a handful follow the girls, however, and they have likely never even seen many of the midmajor recruits. Players like Claire DeBoer, Jackie Klotz, Kate Walker, and Kaitlyn Slagus, to name a few, were not ranked very high at all.
In recent years, I think Lehigh's recruits have often been ranked higher. How has that worked out?

One thing I'll add is that when it comes to mid-level players, the shoes worn by their AAU team can be a big factor. Also how you impress the one scout who sees you once.
You may recall the top-ranked Bucknell class ever was Joyce Novacek, Cosi Higham, and Taylor Phillips. Phillips had a very high rating, which never panned out, which had something to do with her AAU team's ties to Blue Star Report, which in turn had close ties to Nike. Higham also had a top 100 ranking - which was too high even though she was a solid player. The scout who assigned that ranking later said it was based on how hard she played more than on her total game.

Another good game for Tai Johnson:
" Defending 4A state champion Mars hammered Pine-Richland, 77-39, in a non-conference game. Bella Pelaia connected on four 3-pointers and had a game-high 22 points. Tai Johnson and Ellie Coffield added 19 points each for Mars."

1. TV feature on Carly Krsul's Armstrong team, with a lot of airtime for her:
https://ccxmedia.org/sports/armstrong-girl s-basket...
Thus far she is averaging over 18 ppg and her team is 6-0, with an average winning margin of 26 points.
2. Tai Johnson had 14 points to lead her Mars team to a 54-42 win over previously undefeated Gateway, who was last year's 5A WPIAL champ.

A Minnesota paper has a lot of Krsul stats. Her skill set has been compared to that of Claire DeBoer and hopefully that is in the ballpark. In any event, she is contributing in every way:
19 ppg, 12 rpg, 3.3 apg, 3 bpg, 2.5 spg.
Over her last three games, she has scored a total of 71 points - about 24 ppg - and grabbed 42 rebounds - about 14 rpg.

Tai Johnson's Mars team is now 7-1. She had 22 points in a win just before Christmas. Then had 17 points in a tournament semi win, followed by 19 points in a loss in the final to Peters Township, one of the top teams in the state. They have a top 75 player plus another good one.

1. Julie Kulesza, who is a junior, was named Delaware Gatorade POY for the second consecutive year. Averaged 16.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.2 apg, and 3.4 apg. Also a 4.90 weighted GPA.
https://twitter.com/ConradAthletics/statu s/1104381...
2. Carly Krsul, who is a 6-1 forward, scored 26 points in a 72-52 win in the first round of the Minnesota 6A tournament. Then her team lost to the state's #2 team, 67-42 in a game where she had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
3. Emma Shaffer, a 6-2 center from the Cinci area, was disappointingly an honorable mention for All-Southwest Ohio Division I. There were 21 players on the three teams above honorable mention.
4. Brooke Mullin's Neshaminy team, which has gone 23-4 to this point, plays Hazleton in 6A States tonight. Mullin, who is a 5-11 wing, averaged 14.5 ppg, 8.4 rpg, and 2.6 spg this year and

Also Carly Krsul was named 4A honorable mention in Minnesota. That state makes it a bit tougher to get accolades, as the only options are 1st team or honorable mention. 4A consists of the largest schools. Krsul ended her career with 1,463 points, 295 blocks, and 896 rebounds.

There should be one more scholarship available. Any prospect of bringing in another recruit this late in the game? Or do they just hold it for next year and bring in an extra player then?

I believe Roussell was planning to hold it for next year. No idea if the new coach has different plans, but there are very few players who would be fits for the Bison available at this stage of the recruiting cycle. A lot more women than men sign in the early signing period, and the late signing period began 10 days ago. I would hate to see a late recruit brought in who is not as good as a player they could sign for 2020. I don't think I'd even consider someone who is not a center.

That's what I thought. They bring back a solid core and a strong recruiting class. As long as everyone stays healthy, they have enough depth for every position.

While I understand Bucknell's history (or lack of) with transfers, wonder if there is any chance to see a strong rebounding big come in from another school.

There is always a chance, especially with a new coach who has an available scholarship. What makes it somewhat less likely is that most of the undergrad transfers would have to sit a year and Bucknell doesn't have many grad programs to attract the grad transfers.
Kathy Fedorjaka did bring in some transfers in the 2004-09 period: Lillian Drumgold ( UNC-Wilmington), Brooke Tomovich (Loyola), Andrea Wright (Penn), and Jacquie Seawright (South Plains College (TX)). Of course she had more openings than Roussell has had.

Bison Women Recruits - High School Season 05-05-19 03:24 PM - Post#284197
In response to Bison137
It appears that Brooke Mullin has decommitted from Bucknell and jumped to Villanova. Not good.
The timing suggests Bucknell gave her a release before the new coach was hired. If so, that is somewhat unusual, i.e. not giving the new coach a chance to re-recruit her.

Not good at all. She was likely to play a lot of minutes.

I would guess so. However remember that I am just speculating. It is possible that she met with Woodruff - although that would be an extremely short time frame for (a) him to get hired, (b) meet with her, (c) give her a release, and (d) then for her to commit to a new school.
Hopefully the other recruits stay committed, as two of them are likely to see major minutes this year.

I would speculate that it was an institutional decision made soon after Roussell's resignation. Recruits were likely contacted ASAP. If they asked, they would have been told that the University would be willing to offer a release under certain conditions, one of which would be the opportunity for the new coach to talk/meet with them. Another possible condition could've been eliminating certain schools, i.e., Patriot League schools. I believe this is SOP for most schools these days.

Yes, definitely SOP for most schools. The key is "e the opportunity for the new coach to talk/meet with them." Given how quickly she decommitted from Bucknell and then found a new home, I question whether Woodruff had time to actually meet with her.
