Actually it appears from the picture (see the link below) that the Bison is on the front, which would be more appropriate. Maybe they have a Jayhawk on the tail of the coin!

I almost fell off my chair when I first saw it. That is as amusing as the new Kansas license plate, which also has a Bison on it.
