We got no votes in the latest poll. What's it going to take? I really thought we'd show up on a few ballots. At least we knocked Nova out of the top 25.

It will take an undefeated season the rest of the way.

Nah, no chance with 2 losses and one to Oregon State that is likely to be pretty mediocre by Power 5 standards. We’d have to do a lot more damage. Besides, I’m not worried about rankings, I’m worried about New Mexico!

If we win our next 2 games it's possible someone might give us a vote.

Why not? All it takes is one voter. NJIT got a vote this week.

If we win on the road at UNM and Toledo, it would not surprise me if someone decides to put in a vote for an 11-2 team that has also knocked off Villanova and Miami.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Pit should be fun though.

So how did we end up playing a one-off game at New Mexico?

Exactly, like I said, I'm just worried about New Mexico. TOUGH place to play and I saw tail end of their game against Colorado (KP Ranked 63) at The Pit. NM lost by a bucket at the end I think, but they really score it and are super athletic. It looks like they don't defend that well so that is why their overall rating is lower, but their O is top 100 (ranked higher than ours).

KP predicts a 1 point win, but I think we'll have to play really well to win that game away. We've shown we can do it for sure, but will need to keep foot on the pedal. Hopefully the finals break gives the guys time to recover a bit, rest, and come out really strong on the road.

It's a great game for the team. Playing a pretty good opponent in a building notoriously difficult for visiting teams is only going to make them better, win or lose.

And Albuquerque is a fun place. They can hang out with Walter, Jesse, Gus, Mike and the gang.

I am sure NM is a pay game. We always have at least one (Dayton last year, UCF before that). I think the coaches look for a D1 that is top 100 we feel we can beat.

New Mexico was blown out 85-60 on a neutral court by St. Mary's, a team Harvard defeated on the Gael's home-court while missing its top three players. Just sayin'.

But playing at The Pit changes the dynamic quite a bit.

Again, using the transitive property makes Penn No. 1--both Penn and Kansas beat Villanova by 3 on their own courts. Oh, did it missing its best player, highest rated recruit and several role players.

Early in the season we did get a single vote. I remember laughing at the time. I think we were 3-0 at that time.

Indeed (although at that point 27 teams outside the AP Top 25 received at least 1 vote).

I’m wondering if Toledo wasn’t scheduled at least in part to be a relatively easy drive for Max and Antonio’s families to see these seniors play.

Didn't they play in Dayton last year? I assumed that one was for Antonio. Max makes more sense for this one as I couldn't figure out the link. I think it's cool that they do this. Do most teams try and schedule this way? It's a nice recruiting tool.

Did they know for sure he would be back on the team when that game was scheduled? If so that makes sense but that’s a big if.

We played Toledo last year. I think it's just a filler game we tried to add a quality opponent. From what I know we tried to get Chicago area games and haven't been able to get any takers. Funny that Northwestern/UIC and Notre Dame has played a couple Ivy's last year and this year.

Right. But I still have to think that the Dayton game last year was played for Antonio who would have been graduating. Interesting that we couldn't get a bite from Chicago.

Of course our women's team opened at Notre Dame. But there they figured they had the game in the bag.

I'm guessing those men's teams might be a bit more cautious about scheduling us, at least now, since we'd have a decent shot of winning.
