Holy Mackerel!!! Devin Cannady 21 pts, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. DesRosiers 16pts - Much 13 pts. They win with Llewellyn 1-10.
ASU should have won but the Tigers got some breaks but finally, they finished. Arirguzoh made incredibly clutch free throws to take the lead and 8 for 9 on the line.
IL play will be interesting and Tigers should have gained some confidence. Anything can happen in any given game.

Box score shows what a rock fight this was. Very happy to see this team prevail in that style--they need to be good even when the offense isn't flowing that well.
I've been begging MH to foul hard and often against top opponents -- especially since Aririguzoh is our one and only interior presence. Elite teams don't like being hit to the floor and being forced to shoot boring FTs. They want to blow us off the court with epic dunks and get the crowd screaming in our ears. Anything to prevent that gives us a chance.
Basically, the Brad Stevens Butler brand of basketball -- ugly, physical, defensive. And then hope a couple guys get hot at the right times. MH's "no foul" approach never sat right with me, at least against great teams.

"No foul" works when your D is good and especially when you're hitting threes while they're shooting twos. I agree that uglying it up is often the right move against superior athletic teams when your offense isn't clicking that well.

Expected Quaker response as per the norm.
Should be some good upcoming games with Penn and they will be a big challenge for the Tigers.

Great game today, Brad. Given what
t you just saw, I think my remarks to you prior to the game in Durham have to be considered in a slightly different light; and the win today was achieved with very little contribution offered by your great freshman guard.

Objective observation. Two wide-open threes. The putback attempt in between was challenged, but still just barely missed.
Should be some good upcoming games with Penn and they will be a big challenge for the Tigers.
Whoever can get key guys back and healthy could have a huge edge.

Very nice, USC like, win on the road.
On a side note, Bobby Hurley is a complete tool on the sideline. What an embarrassment.

My observaations are as follows:
Princeton vs. Duke = Boys against Men
Princeton vs. ASU = Adolescents vs. Young Men
After the Duke game, Henderson and Cannady commented that the Duke athleticism and length was pretty crazy including their ability to play tough/hard nosed defense. Henderson commented that Duke was even more impressive at courtt level. ASU is very good but I do not believe at the level of the Dukies but time will tell. Perhaps, the Tigers are also growing up as a team.

Thanks to everyone for the commentary, as I was unable to watch the game.
I have watched replays of the last play several times, from two camera angles. Cannady made a big error turning the ball over after rebounding the initial missed shot (shades of Penn's mistake on last play against Villanova). Martin had a wide open shot, but missed (the same shot he made against Kansas). Dort covered an incredible amount of ground to seize that last rebound; we are fortunate he missed.
I was most happy to see Much and Desrosiers step up. If only it can continue.
Aririguzoh's free throw shooting improvement since freshman year is incredible.
I wonder if advanced basketball metrics support increased fouling on defense? Intuitively it could work well against teams that shoot free throws poorly. How is Penn as a free throw shooting team...?

Gladson just does not seem to get on the court which is unfortunate as he provides a big body but the progress made by Arirguzoh has reduced the effect of Gladson's absence. Only concern is that Arirguzoh does get into foul trouble. Gladson is your traditional Tiger C while Richmond is a much different and improved version. His progress from last year to this year says so much about him and the coaching staff.
As to Myles, Tigers do need him. DesRosiers and Much's performance yesterday is encouraging but you always want a senior co-captain on the floor. DesRosiers and Much got significant minutes yesterday while Schweigger got 7 minutes as Mitch continues to go more athletic.
If, huge if, DesRosiers and Much perform in IL play, Tigers will literally get two new players into the mix. Morales gives them the option to play small when needed and it will be an option against smaller IL teams.
Time will tell. I always enjoy the comments by others that Coach Henderson does not seem able to get performance from his players.
IL may be a roller coaster this year for many teams.

Wow! I just watched the highlights and agree that nine times out of ten the heavily favored home team makes one of those three final shots and this game gets filed away as yet another close but no cigar Princeton upset bid. But the basketball gods apparently wanted to reward the Tigers for believing in themselves despite the best-down administered by Duke last week.
The box score does not reflect the sort of perfect game you would expect would be needed to beat a ranked team on their court. No Stephens, Llewelyn not a factor, so-so shooting, 11 TOs to ASU’s 7. But they held them to 66 points, had 13 assists on 20 made shots, they rebounded competitively and Aririguzoh, Much and Desrosiers made up for the absence of Myles and Jaelin. And Cannady had the best stat line on either team.
Is this a turning point where the Tigers top 8 players embrace the defensive intensity and offensive flow it will take to be competitive against the better Ivy teams? Or an outlier like last year’s upset at USC?
Penn games will be a good barometer of Princeton’s progress but I’m encouraged by this unexpected showing.

Congrats on a great road win, good for the league also
Our (penn) foul shooting is awful, hard to believe for a good D1 basketball team. We have shot it well as times but ridiculously poor at others.

Although we cannot experience the contrapositive, one wonders if we could have won this game with Stephens on the floor. Those catch and shoot rapid release three point shots by Much which I saw on the highlights are not in Stephens arsenal.

I’d like to see more Max Johns. The kid plays tough defense and he’s not afraid to foul. Against a poor FT shooting team, that’s a smart play.
