Have little idea what will happen. Don't even know if Randy Brumant will show more interest in the part of the court between the 3point arcs or by the boards- that decision could well dictate the course of the entire game. Rebounding will matter, as it did at Boston College & Rutgers- the maligned Rodney Hunter can help in this area, for sure. Best case scenario will show CU playing with the Cats, and coming home with a sense of cautious optimism about the Ivy season.

They're a dead horse to you, anyway. But with 16:26 left in the first half, CU's up 6-4, and, more noteworthy, Randy Brumant already has 4 rebounds- I like it!

10:41 remaining in the 1st half; CU's still ahead, 12-10. Brumant's aggressive play in the early going got him nailed for a couple of fouls; but Ike Nweke's holding it down, scoring on layups off of feeds from Rodney Hunter; Hunter's also come up with 2 rebounds. Noteworthy, too, Engles has gone to CJ Davis earlier than is his normal to rest Stefanini- the coach may be wising up a bit as Chet Forte has proclaimed!

3:30 left in the 1st half, and Northwestern's opening up a lead, 25-18. CU missed shots & a couple of turnovers have helped Northwestern to build some momentum. Columbia guards have only contributed 4 points so far- that's Killingsworth, Stefanini, Bibbs, Adlesh and Davis, combined!

Columbia is 2-3 from three with Q hitting the last two late in the half. Northwestern started off 2-9 from three, but then finished hitting 4 of its last 5.
Lions doing well in the front court with Tape (10), Nweke (7) and Brumant (2) accounting for 19 of the 29 points. They are also leading 16-8 in points in the paint.
Columbia was up in the rebounding 15 (3 offensive)- 7 (0 offensive) in the first 12 minutes, then Northwestern went 8 (3 offensive) -3 (0 offensive) over the last 8 minutes. Columbia has 8 players with a rebound and 7 with at least 2 boards.

16 minutes remaining in the game; Lions still hanging around, down 11.
They're not being allowed too many open looks from outside the arc- Adlesh made 2 just before the intermission; Killingsworth, one just after the break-in and that's been it. Remember, Northwestern played unbeaten Michigan to a two point loss; they're much more consistent than Arizona State, and flat out better than Toledo, among others. This game is CLEARLY the Lions biggest test to date, and perhaps even going forward.

7 minutes left with Northwestern holding a solid 15 point lead. Stefanini just made his first outside shot of the game; but the Lions have only scored on 5 such jump shots all game long. Patrick's working with Stefanini on pick and rolls continues to be an excellent piece of the CU offense ; with the big man converting on 7 of 9 such tries this afternoon.

Not sure Northwesternis significantly better than Toledo, if at all. KP has them 5 places apart. Would be a good tame for sure.

Northwestern outrebounded Columbia 24-14 in the 2nd half and dominated in FT (10-12 vs 0-0).
Tape did really well with 18 points and 8-10 shooting. Adlesh added 14 with 4 of 9 three pointers. Stefanini had 8 assists, but only 6 points. Killngsworth had only 3 points on 1-3 shooting. Brumant and Nweke did not have any 2nd half points.
NW ended 10-24 from three, while the Lions were 5-16. At the line, NW finished with 19-24 and Columbia had 7-10.

The ratings didn't matter much in the Pr-AZ State, Brown-San Diego State games .For that matter the KS@AZ State game.
They're good for discussions, only.

Yes. It ended up a 21 point loss for the Lions; but I believe the kids gave a great effort today- Brumant (6 Reb.) and his teammates held themselves very much accountable today. The two teams rebounding battle was practically a draw. One major area of difference was Northwester's superior 3 point defense- Jake Killingsworth took only 3 shots all afternoon. Would have been nice today to have had the Mike Smith dimension- one player who can break down any defense & draw other defenders to him and leaving open some potential shooters.not- Still, no disgrace in CU's going out there and losing by 21- the one game so far that would have gone in the loss column, even if CU had the benefit of Mike Smith, Meisner, Jaron Faulds and/ or Jim McMillian on the court; all at the same time!

Ratings don't mean much, but Northwestern's a very solid, workmanlike team that's short on the spectacular and long in consistency.
In this men's basketball age wherein nobody's that much better than anyone else (as Sam Hinkie above mentioned), Northwestern presented a clinic on what a team needs to do well in order to win games.

Good effort today by the Lions. Our big men played well. Tape, Nweke, Brumant and Hunter are coming along. The ten turnovers in the first half obviously hurt us.

Unfortunately ratings matter a lot more than discussion only. There is a committee that uses them to pick at large teams for the NCAA tournament. And while you can find outliers in every conference, some of those ratings are decent indicators of hownteams stack up.
