I'm not sure what to think but I'm delighted we won! I give the team and coaches great credit for not folding up when they fell behind by 26 early in the second half. But I've never seen a worse 20 minutes of Bucknell basketball (well, except maybe when the Bison lost to Messiah College during my senior year). Let's hope we don't have to make such a comeback again any time soon!

One of the worst halves of basketball I’ve ever seen from Bucknell. Ever
I remember a 17 point half against Wagner in Flannery’s last year. Did not think it could get worse than that. Surprise!
63, unfortunately, I went to the Wagner game in question. I took my sons and nephews. I was soooo embarrassed after telling them how good Bucknell was.
New season, new team, new dream . . . |

Can you imagine being Army? You blow a 26 point lead at home to open League play? Yikes.

It was actually somehow worse than that: 13 in the first half. They did claw back and make it respectable. I was at the game too - a doe-eyed Freshman expecting big things after following the program during the glory (3) years prior. The Wagner game came after a great effort and narrow defeat at then No. 24 Nova. Coach Griffin dropped 22 (6/10 from 3).

We made 2 FGs in the first half. Only one player made a FG in the first half...And won! What a box score.
64-63 will always make a Bison fan smile!

I was there too ‘89, with a Wagner alum. I was quite condescending prior and had to eat my share of crow after the game.

Has video of the Bison defensive stand at the end, followed by Mackenzie's pass to Toomer. Also some comments from ND.

When it was 39-13, Army had a 99.3% win probability.

On twitter, Kimbal pointed out that Avi was signaling for a lob pass on the final play to give him a dunk. Might have been a more exciting finish, but I'm sure glad Kimbal settled for the conventional bounce pass and layup.
Btw, Army played perhaps the worst defense in basketball history in the final seconds. If you watch the replay, three of their players went for the offensive glass and a fourth, on the far wing, just stood there motionless for an extended period and then stupidly went for a steal. That gave the Bison a two-on-one breakout for the game winner.

Rarely has a Bison PG ever put together a better two game stretch for all-around stats. He didn't have a great first half, but his second half stats were unbelievable:
- 9 points (1-2 on twos, 2-2 on threes)
- 7 rebounds
- 9 assists (vs 2 turnovers)

Do we think he can get a triple double this season? He’s kind of been flirting with it. 137 has anyone ever gotten a triple double at Bucknell?

In addition to wondering where the Bison team was the first half, I also questioned Davis' passive approach to coaching. Bison missed their first three shots to start game, all within 4 feet, then reverted to long, low probability jump shots. Went at least 0 for 10. Didn't see Nathan get off the bench to get team back in rhythm, much less call a time out. Wonderful ending that we won't get away with very often.

The first half malaise was easily explainable. We all looked around during the National Anthem and something was missing. As we came back to the bench I saw a couple of our guys mouthing what appeared to me to be “where’s BRW

It is a fact that ND’s demeanor during games is quite different than, say Pat Flannery’s, or even Dave Paulsen’s, in fact as an assistant he was the designated restrainer to Flannery, who often required restraint. But you cannot argue with his record. In fact, I would not be surprised if, by the time his Bison coaching career ends, he is not the highest winning % coach in school history. You are who you are, and ND is not a firebrand, he just wins.
