I’ve got it from a reliable source that Stadium is implementing what had always been their plan and making it a pay service. The “ glitch†tonight was that the Bucknell game was the only one. Apparently that will not be the case going forward. I can live with that. You’ll remember that the PLN was a pay network in the early days. My gripe is with the delay in the archives. If you cannot catch the game live, you should not have to wait 3 or 4 hours for an archive when virtually all other services provide it right away.
Curiously, you can still watch free on a smart phone or computer. Not sure why. Also, tonight’s Bison game is available now as an archive on Roku at no charge.

I did not experience a glitch watching on my phone last night. What type of glitch are you talking about?

63, I just read the other thread. So, now, I understand the issue. I did not have any of those problems on my Android phone.

I watched on my iPhone ‘89 and there was no problem. But when I tried to watch on my Roku on my large screen, when I clicked on the game instead of “watch now†it said “ start free trial.†I was able to watch HC vs LU as well as the BIson women, but not the men. Not wanting to be restricted to the small phone screen, I tried to watch on an iPad, where again I was asked to start a free trial.

Btw,I am not sure what will happen if you used your “ free trial†for the St Mary’s game, as I did. I suspect when I sign up, the charge will be effective immediately, rather than seven days forward.

If you buy Apple TV (once off) and just stream PLN on your iPhone to your big screen it works like a charm and the quality is super...unfortunately so is the audio for home games!

I had made inquiries as well, and the response confirms what bison63 said about Stadium having always intended to migrate to a paid subscription model with Patriot League games.
To quote part of the response:
"The subscription service should only apply to Over-The-Top connections (such as Roku, Facebook, Sony Playstation connections, etc.)."
I guess that explains why some people hit the paywall and others didn't.
So it sounds like, provided you can use a browser to put things on your big screen, you'll still be able to watch for free by accessing the website rather than the Stadium channel on Roku, etc. I look forward to testing that hypothesis on Saturday at noon ET.
It looks like the Colgate-Bucknell game was the Patriot League's first foray into the premium content scheme. Barring an advance communication effort, it looks like all the other league fans are in for their own confusion and rude surprises in the coming days.

Stadium on Roku was a pay game, but if you access stadium via the Bucknell website the game is free. Methinks Patriot league network will be free this year but stadium may have some pay games. Get a browser on Roku and access through the Bucknell website.

Stadium on Roku was a pay game.
It wasn't until last night. Previously, they'd offer you an option to set up an account or start a free trial, but there was always a "skip" option and you could watch for free.

Right! No more “skip†option. Still, my gripe is not $4.95/ month, but the fact that they do not archive right away, and frankly they are making no commitment to do so.

I watch it online and plug my PC into my TV with an HDMI cable. It's free and the quality is a nice good as the broadcast.

Noticed that “skip†option was back on Stadium tonight. Wonder if that means their pay to watch plans have hit a snag?

I thought the Stadium frustration would continue. We just cancelled the subscription and now have access to the game.

It was a “premium†game again. Not sure why some games are still free. Either charge us all, or don’t charge any. I hooked my phone to the tv and it was fine.

Aesthetically, it wasn’t a “premium†game.

Holy Cross fans got to have their turn with the aggravation of Stadium's poorly-communicated turn toward charging for Patriot League games.
According to one poster there, Stadium is--at least for now--only designating certain games as "premium" and charging to watch them via certain platforms.
On Saturday, the highly-anticipated first place showdown between perennial contenders Bucknell and Lehigh wasn't "premium," but Loyola at Holy Cross was.
I guess supply and demand doesn't figure into the designation. That's a good thing for us.
