The term "trap game" is probably overused - but it applies here. The Bison are coming off games with the league's top six teams (based on the preseason poll), five of which were battles right to the final seconds. Now they play the team picked for last place - almost unanimously - and in Sojka no less.
If they think this is a sure win, they could lose it. Loyola has won their last three games - beating Army, Boston U, and Holy Cross - and has had several frosh and sophs step up. Also their wing Andrew Kostecka was just PL POW and also received national honors. In his two games last week, he scored 54 points, shooting 61% (20-33) on twos and 50% (3-6) on threes. He is 2nd in ppg in PL games and 1st in steals. He is a strong candidate for 1st team All-PL, where there are about 8 guys fighting for 5 spots.

To me this is one of those games that they need to take care of business. Good veteran teams like this one need to win these games. Time for us to try and gain some separation.

Hopefully, the guys remember last year's PL QF game. We came very close to an embarrassing loss.

I agree with Bison137's assessment of trap game here. Although it could be easily remedied with a good mental approach consisting of focus and determination. Their attitude in practice this week will also be a determinant here, I hope they didn't take them lightly. Other than that, all systems go! I'm looking forward to see how all the players are progressing this season, this is a good game to showcase skills given the right attitude.

Hopefully, the slow start issue has been resolved. Otherwise, this could be a long night.

How many of you predicted 5 threes for Jones and Spear in the first half?

Glad I couldn’t watch this game. I had a feeling this was going to be closer than it should.

Here's a replay of Spear's remarkable three-pointer, block, rebound, three-pointer sequence:

Spear grew up about 5 miles from my home in Texas. Too early to predict his career but last year felt he was the perfect Bison and Patriot League recruit. Overshadowed by the large number of high level D1 prospects in Texas plus too thin for may of the top schools (but not Patriot League). HS team captain, very coachable with strong academic skills. Hoping that given another year of Davis staff coaching plus 20+ pounds of muscle, he will be another solid contributor. Would love to know how Bucknell identified and recruited him but glad they did.

Spear seems like such a likable young man. Genuine. I would love to see what he could become on the court with more experience and 25-30 lbs especially upper body.
