What a finish. Adlesh and Stefanini were great in the second half.

Yes. Team defense did well to limit Matt Morgan's number of shot attempts- in particular from outside the arc.

Well, Columbia deserved this win! Stefanini, what guts, especially after last weekend! Without Adlesh and Tape, no Columbia win either.

Tape was excellent. No doubt. Great shot blocker.

Adlesh, Stefanini and Tape were the stars of this game. Also, very nice game from Iweke. Columbia is obviously a better team than Cornell, but almost lost the game because our endgame is frightening. Indeed the esteemed TV analyst, said Columbia's problem is that it can't close out games. That was just before we gave Cornell the opportunity to tie the game at the buzzer with a wide open three even though they had to take the ball out from under their own basket with only 5.6 seconds left on the clock.

I understand, P6; and you know I'll be the very last (living) soul to ever praise JE, and though Cornell had that open look at the end, it wasn't presented to a kid who can make a shot. Matt Morgan was only allowed 14 shots all night; Cornell was held to under 30% from outside the arc- this does represent some improvement, and I do believe CU passed your test! Princeton and Penn at Levien, Feb.1 and 2 are next. For one night, JE has to keep that gravedigger's shovel locked up in his trunk; we're not quite dead, yet!

Steffanini with 24, Adlesh with 21, and Tape who seems to have recovered his bounce after an early season injury with 10 pts, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots.

One off note: Hunter has left the team and the school. It's just speculation, but following on the conclusion of the fall semester, I would assume that the reason was academic.

That's really unfortunate; particularly for a young man so close to completing degree requirements; hope he's doing well wherever he may be; though that's just one more kid who's left the current men's basketball program in an unexpected, not so easily understood, manner.

Hopefully Hunter finds a home elsewhere and finishes his education. He never really found his game here but perhaps a fresh start would be good for him.

One great coaching decision was letting Morgan have the uncontested layup instead of giving him a chance at a three

Very good, Chet. And that took place in the aftermath of a Columbia timeout in the last minute of the game- got to figure players were reminded, we're up 3, don't let Morgan have any opportunity outside the arc.

And JE gave the refs an earful on an awful call against us late in the game. He needs to keep doing that.

Very nice to get a win early in what could be a challenging season. Good comments by all. I'd add only these:

1. Our bigs and out team in general consistently played a very physical game. Many collisions occurred especially with our bigs going to the boards and elsewhere with guys hitting the floor. It's a good attitude to see. I hope Bibbs' shoulder is ok after his hard fall in the second half.

2. We saw some welcome offense from Nweke we have not seen before. If he can hit that elbow jumper other good things will follow.

3. In conference we are scouted so assiduously to be chased off the 3 point line that both Stefanini who already had an advanced mid-range game and Adlesh who to his credit has developed one, are going to get opportunities to score mid-range and their effectiveness will in part help determine the outcomes of games.

4. As the color analyst correctly observed, Stefanini and Adlesh showed an improve chemistry which again is a positive sign if a tiny sample.

HF: What do you think about last term senior Rodney Hunter leaving the CU basketball program?

Our bigs have become real enforcers under the basket. PT is a great shot blocker. Brumant has improved enormously. Nweke reminds me of a Yale forward who graduated a few years ago with the same type of game and the same body type. I suspect that opposing teams are going to start driving more in an effort to get our bigs in foul trouble. While I feel badly for Hunter on a personal level I had thought that he pretty much had played himself onto the end of the bench because of the absence of any offensive game. So we are going to have to play the rest of the year with three front court players.
