Interestingly, the notes list one starting guard as "G: Jimmy Sotos (9.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 6.0 apg) or Nate Jones (2.6 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.6 apg)".

Normally the starters shown in the game article are meaningless, as they usually just show the five starters from the previous game, regardless of injuries. However I don't recall them ever showing an injured player as a possible starter while also listing his possible replacement.

Per Jimmy’s Instagram, he has a torn labrum. Said he will try and play out the season and get surgery once the season ends

Thanks for that update. It should be noted that a torn labrum is one of the consequences of a shoulder dislocation. Some athletes are able to play with that condition. It is bound to affect his play, I would think.

Here is an article with more information about shoulder dislocations and labrum tears:

Wow, been there, done that. I'm assuming it must be some sort of partial tear. My bicep tendon was completely unattached and I can't imagine trying to shoot hoops in the driveway, let alone play D1 basketball. I had no pain and had no idea I was even injured but I gradually lost strength in that arm until I figured out something was wrong.

I wish him well.

I'm confused. A bicep tendon becoming detached is different than a labrum tear. Did you have both?

Edit: After reviewing some medical sites, I see there are two different types of labrum tears. What you likely had is a SLAP (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior), which occurs at the front of the upper arm, where the biceps connects.

However the labrum tear usually produced by a dislocated shoulder is a Bankart tear. It typically occurs due to shoulder dislocation in younger patients. In a Bankart tear, the head of the humerus either shifts toward the front of the body, leading to “anterior instability,” or the back of the body, called “posterior instability.”

I assume Sotos has a Bankart tear.

Yep, I had a SLAP tear. I'm glad to see you slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Tough injury for Jimmy as he is having a very good season. Forcrhe Bison, PG is a place we are very thin....really Jimmy is the only viable player for that role. Yes Kimbal can fill in some during a game but to me, that is not a great situation. Sechan can probably give some minutes if needed without hurting the team but overall, this team is not set up to lose Jimmy if that ends up happening.

I think they'd try Funk at PG before Sechan. Sechan will likely have to play some and maybe will improve with experience. But neither can match his rebounding ability. Probably the reason for playing Jones and letting Kimbal play point.

Agree. Sechan can handle the ball well, but is not a shooter. Not sure how well he defends at this level. Funk played a fair amount of PG at Archbishop Wood last year, but I don't see him as a natural PG. However he does give them a potential shooter at the position.

As someone who has chronic shoulder issues after pitching all my life I can relate. You can certainly play through the shoulder injury but it is likely that will be a couple times a game where a subtle hit of the shoulder will cause a ton of pain. I know it’s happened to me, where it looks like nothing but I’m on tbe verge of tears. In addition it is difficult to throw your hands above your head. I imagine it’s gonna effect his shot. Hopefully the medical staff can find a way to mitigate the pain.

Is this game academic? That is, we are playing a 6-13 team and are probably a little better than them and will probably come out with a 15 pt. win?

Not academic st all, especially with Sotos out. If they don’t play well, they could easily lose.
