It's a great, great win. But we officially have a Dez Cambridge problem.
His performances have been so high variance on both sides that Brown will go as he goes.

Tonight was probably his worst performance while at Brown - everything from free throws to layups missed to turnovers. You like that he got a big offensive board and a key late assist to Choh, despite his struggles. But it seems clear that the pressure defense has gotten to him; he's under remarkable pressure on every narrow window he has. I mean they're faceguarding him 30 feet from the basket. He needs a break.

Hard to encourage a player who can do what he can do to temper his shooting. But when you open the Ivy season shooting 9-49, 3-24 from three, it's just untenable, doesn't matter how talented you are. Brown has to re-think its offensive distribution in the next few games, and give Dez some breathing room. He's got to be asked to be in the flow of the offense, not the offense.

It's a credit to this team and staff that they managed to win a huge game anyway. Your heroes are Okolie - who absolutely saved the day - and Sullivan for keeping them in it early. Choh with another remarkable all-around performance.

There was team basketball here too that you credit for the win. Three point defense outstanding. Defensive rebounding outstanding. They forced a ton of turnovers. They got some critical offensive rebounds down the stretch. They gave up too many layups - that's about all you could point at on the defensive end. The rest was outstanding. Bench was huge - huge contributions from Mawanda Kalema and Mitchell.

huge to come back to win this. Because Harvard just pasted the supposed best team in the league who already beat us twice.

Sullivan, Mawanda-Kalema and Mitchell made the difference, who wood of thought? Okoli and Choh are money, and Hunsaker too. A road win when you shoot awful is a big plus.

When a shooter is going bad, it’s best to get try to go inside and get some better percentage shots or get to the line. Dez needs to see the ball go thru the hoop to regain his confidence. He can jump thru the roof. He should be able to get off some shots against opposing guards. If he is getting over played he can dish off. I agree with the prior comments. He can’t keep hoising threes and hoping they go in. Needs a change in strategy. Martin said after the first Yale game he needed to devise ways to get Dez better opportunities. That has not happened yet. Brown held the leagues leading three point shooting team to 5 of 20, and also forced 19 TO’s. Fourteen of which were steals. Great pressure defense. Okie and Choh combined to force a late crucial TO and foul on Dartmouth. Hunsaker hit a huge three late in the game with one second on shot clock. I listened to the TV play-by-play, so I didn’t hear why Anderson didn’t play. Did our local announcers say? I hope Harvard spent a big emotional effort to beat Yale as they did. Perhaps they’ll come out flat tomorrow night and the Bears can surprise.

Layups are tough because Dez doesn’t really take guys off the dribble to the hoop. It’s interesting. He dunks on alley oops and he shoots jump shots. He’s actually a little awkward driving to the basket. For a guy with his athleticism, you’d think that could be part of his game as he grows.

Not so much layups where you need a path to the basket. But he should be able to post up some guards or small forwards. He can turn and sky over them for some banks shots from the side of the lane or from the baseline. He has done this a little in the past. Once he establishes that he can head fake, get the defender in the air, and go by them for a clearer shot or a layup. Perhaps HE needs to devise ways to get himself better shots. Perhaps the fact that he doesn’t do more of this shows a lack of maturity in his game that he needs to develope. I also think he plays with too much emotion on his sleeve. I think that puts added pressure on himself to continually back it up. He should play a little more within himself and focus on the take at hand, not playing to the crowd. Playing with emotion is fine. But it should be channeled properly. Again, more maturity would be beneficial here. He was great in most non-league games. But against instate rival and A-10 opponent URI we started to see him shoot less effectively, with many shots being forced. Again, when the league games started with the big home opener against Yale, we saw him play less effectively. And that has continued. He has to let the game come to him. There are others who can handle some of that load.

Agree with a lot of what JBears and Bruno are saying, regarding Cambridge. He came out last night and pressed from the start - dribbling it off his leg, zipping a pass out of bounds, and taking a host of awful shots. JBears is correct - he just needs to show a little more offensive maturity and let it come to him. Game 2 vs Yale he came out and got it in the post twice for two easy buckets. Hopefully we see more of that. Unfortunately he doesn't get easy baskets (by trade) and does not get to the FT line, so when he struggles like this it is UGLY. However, kudos for him to being mature enough on the other end to continue to be locked on defensively - lot of guys with his profile would hang their heads.

This is one of the better defensive teams we have had in a long time. We hedge on recover on screens very well and rotate very well when required. Defense won this one for us.

Huge lift last night from GMK, Sullivan, and Mitchell. Hopefully we will see GML getting those types of minutes moving forward. That kid is a sniper and teams will have to account for him off the catch and shoot - hopefully this will assist is freeing Cambridge up a little.

Choh with 12,9,5, and 4 while matching up with another elite Ivy big (Knight). Kid is relentless out there.

Agree. Dez never takes a play off on defense, no matter what’s happening.

Also agree that the exuberance he shows - after literally every three pointer - seems to be a little much. But more to the point, it may create some extra pressure on the shot that isn’t needed. You start thinking about the celebration. Who knows. It works when he’s on. But even on his one three last night he showed it. Fine line between getting pumped up and having it distract you.

And again - even with all that. He still gets a huge o rebound and huge assist down the stretch that did lead to the win.

DC is 1-14 and 1-4 from the line. Howard very limited and Anderson, DNP, and we win on the road. Thanks Mike and Staff.
