Hunch tells me that JL goes off tonight, that Myles keeps Morgan under his average and that the Tigers pull out another victory.

Tigers score last 8 points of the half and lead by 8. Morgan held to 6 points in first half. Myles pretty much shutting him down so far.

JL goes down hard. Leaves game hobbling. Lead at 10 with 15:30 to play. Tigers with 11 turnovers but making up for it with tough D and solid rebounding.

Tigers looking awful. Lead suddenly down to 1. Cornell pressing all over the court and Tigers really missing JL. Morgan starting to heat up.

Myles takes a breather and Red get a big offensive rebound and tie the game up. RA is dominating on offense to keep the Tigers from total collapse.

Watching Morales is bad for my heart. The guy seems like he’s on the verge of turning the ball over every time he touches it. He’s got 3 TOs already tonight. Up 1 with 8 to play.

Morales with another terrible turnover. Up 2 with 1 minute to play. Cornell ball. This shouldn’t be this close if we could just hold onto the damn ball.

Morales showing why JL is our starting point guard. Really rough outing. The throw straight at the Cornell player that ended in a break away dunk was just unconscionable.

Crap. Tie game. Tiger ball with 18 to play. Princeton’s 11 point lead disintegrates like last year’s 22 point lead in Ithaca. Gotta get a good shot here.

4-0!! Cornell just ran out of gas at the end. Luckily for us, Aririguzoh and Stephens had some left in the tank.

What a gritty win. No way they win this game earlier in the season. Morales has been thrust into a much bigger role than was asked of him, but he redeemed his bad TOs this game with some clutch FTs in OT. Love his heart and determination.

TOs become a concern once again with Devin out and Jaelin coming off an ankle (?) injury. Hopefully it's just a minor sprain that needs a few days off.

Great win with more superior defense on tap--Stephens really held Morgan down, with some team help. Cornell shot in the low thirties, not too many treys, fortunately sucked at the FT line. Too many ORs given up for comfort, not enough TOs forced (until overtime), but good enough in this case.

The team actually committed a ton of turnovers in the first half with JL handling the ball most of the time. Morales had three bad TOs of his own in a short span of time in the second half, but more than made up for it with his press-breaking, charge-drawing, ball-hawking, FT-shooting bravura. Llewelyn is still not helping very much to make the offense go, but his D is good now and he is excellent at controlling the ball--the team needs him back, especially because I feel like he's going to start hitting some shots.

Huge games from RA and Schweiger (we knew he had it in him). Stephen was a bit too hesitant to let fly from three but was generally effective and sensible in his usage--not forcing things too much but asserting himself as needed or when he had the edge. Much was not inspiring but played OK defense, and Desrosiers was very active if only moderately productive.

The officiating was not consistent and through my orange-and-black lenses seemed to be overall favoring Cornell. The no-call at the end of regulation was the most flashy, but Warren went over a Tiger's back and got a call in the first half, there were some weird calls on who last touched balls that seemed clearly off the Big Red, etc.

If this team could just get back some of its three-point shooting mojo to go with its improved D and tough post play, then they would be really hard to beat.

Arirguzoh and Stephens are incredible athletles and so is Llewellyn although he is a freshmen. The Tiger's team has evovled from the Petie Carril to Mitch Henderson. Henderson's style makes sense in this era although there is an understandable yearning to return to the backdoor. The Tigers now are more athletic than the Quakers, Lions and Cornell. The problem and challenge will be Yale and Harvard but you need to be athletic to compete with them.

I was wrong about Schrieger as he has really stepped up. DesRosiers is playing an important role while Much is not much. Problem is that they are starting to run short of players especially if Llewellyn will miss action next week. I suspect that Cannady will not play next weekend but will be back for games 7 and 8 although time will tell.

After all the big ones he's made over the years I can't believe Stephens missed that putback at the end of regulation. Fortunately it didn't matter.

What a bizarre 12 months this team has had.

If no Llewellyn/Cannady next week, somebody is going to have to cowboy up at reserve PG. Looks like one of the freshmen would get the call. Johns? Wright? If they can't hold up Morales will need more than that brace to hold himself together over the minutes he'll pull.

I think Ethan Wright has been worthy of more playing time, even before the Cannady and Llewellyn situations. Wright missed over a month with a wrist injury after the St. John's game, but he's finally healthy now. For the last several minutes of the D3 Wesley game, they tried Wright at the point and I think he handled himself fine. I think he can drive, rebound, and play defense, and like Llewellyn, I think the shooting will come around. We'll see if he can earn some more minutes.

They can almost get the ball up the court without a point guard even against the press (albeit a soft press) using back-passes.

Aririguzoh then moves to the high post to receive & distribute the ball. Only problem, he has a tendency to look only to his left, so he sees just half the court.

But he is smart and a quick learner.

I do not know if Wright is ready yet although it will probably be him or Johns. Wright made a bad defensive play right after coming in although he diid redeem himself on one of the next series defensively -- he looked a bit tentative offensively. Most important attribute for whoever plays is fundamental, solid defense and let Arirguzoh, Stephens, Schwieger and others to score.

Coach simply cannot play Moralels 35+ minutes two nights in a row next weekend. Coach Earl was smart to pressure Morales and the Tigers more so after Llewellyn went out -- more to come probably next weekend.

Next weekend is far more challenging than this weekend but who would have thought that the Tigers would be 4-0 and on a 7 game winning streak. Instead of losing 4 OT games last year that somewhat distorted IL results, they are winning tight games this year. Why -- Luck, Defense, Senior Leadership?

I hope that the Tigers have Henderson locked down.

So how do we match up against Yale?

If we put Stephens on Oni, that leaves Aririguzoh against Bruner, which is fine down low, but Bruner has 3-point range, and probably the speed to go around Aririguzoh if he comes out to guard him.

Yeah, he fouled and created an and-1 on his first series, but then followed that up with a steal and a defensive rebound after that.

Among those with over 100 minutes played, Wright is 3rd on the team in Offensive Rebound % at 6.9% (behind RA and DesRosiers), 2nd in Steal % at 4.2% (behind Morales), and leads in block % at 4.0%. All small sample sizes (110 minutes played) of course.

I think Columbia was the perfect matchup for Schwieger. He was able to post-up and use his size/strength to score on Columbia's guards. But the matchup against Yale is much tougher. Our guards will have to matchup with Copeland and Phills, and then Swain off the bench. Someone will have to chase Swain around the 3-pt line, and chase Copeland around the mid-range. And they can't expect much help from the bigs because of Oni and Bruner.

Good question but tough to answer without knowing the health status of Llewellyn. Postgame, he was walking carefully but he was walking. The other wildcard factor would be if Cannady is reactivated.

Assuming that Llewellyn and Cannady do not play, the Tigers will start the game with a significant disadvantage. Additionally, homecourt for Yale will be tough to overcome.

Stephens will probably match up with Oni with DesRosiers guarding Reynolds. Arirguzoh will be on either Bruner or Atkinson but on Atkinson if they are both in the game. Morales will be on Phils. The total crazy match would be Copeland and Schwieger. Schweiger has the height and strength but Copeland has the moves and scoring touch. If Llewellyn is playing, he may be guarding Copeland.

With a little bit of luck, Bruner will shoot open 3s like he did at Cambridge -- he has cooled off but you never know.

Bench will be an advantage for Yale. Only hope might be for the Tigers to play phenominal defense and rebound. Would be nice if Cannady and Llewellyn were on the court.

Hard to see how Princeton beats Yale without both Cannady and Llewelyn, it was going to be a tough matchup even with both of them available.

Coach Henderson has been emphasizing defense and rebounding and that has been the difference-maker so far along with the emergence of Aririguzoh as an inside threat and Myles regaining his scoring touch.

Amazing that the Tigers have won the last 4 games, 3 on the road, while shooting 15-71 (21%) for 3PT. It is a very different formula for this year’s team but to beat the big boys, especially on their turf, Princeton will need Schweiger, Desrosiers and Much to force them to defend the three point line by nailing a few more treys.

Bruner is not a true post player like Atkinson, Lewis or Arirguzoh but you need an athletic defender on him as he is mobile. DesRosiers or Much are probable candidates to guard him with a slight edge to DesRoosiers. Schrieger could potentially guard Reynolds if all three of them are in the game.

Reynolds sometimes guarded Lewis in addition to Atkinson and Bruner. I think that there is a possibility that Richmond can score on either three of them but that is to be determined.

The biggest change is the Tiger team of this year vs. last year is obviously Arirguzoh. He was the third best player in his sophmore and junior years at Trenton Catholic and was not heavily recruited -- both Stephens and Richmond being local kids with 2 star ratings. Let's see if Richmond can play with the big boys in upcoming games against Yale and Harvard. I suspect so but time will tell.

From the limited video I have watched, Bruner looks like a stretch 4 with true 3-point range. He can shoot over Much and go around Aririguzoh if the latter comes out to guard him.

Yeah, Princeton will not likely be able to shut down Yale the way did their previous three Ivy opponents, as the Eli have too many weapons who can do different things. In the past, Copeland has been a big problem with his penetration, and now Bruner is a matchup problem as well. With Stephens probably tied up guarding Oni, it starts to look pretty challenging to plug all the holes at once. Help defense has been much better but still up and down even during these wins; on the other hand, the Tigers have surprised me so far with the quality of their on-ball man defense, so who knows?

So if Yale is going to have a not-terrible offensive efficiency against Princeton, the good guys will have to get more quality shots and fewer turnovers against Yale than they have lately. And they'll probably have to do it while down a starting backcourt, in an offense that has had precious little off-ball movement and passing. No problem! The Tiger inside scorers will need to be very physical or discover the ability to find open teammates when the help comes.

The rather unexpected emergence of Aririguzoh and Schwieger in the low post gives the coaching staff a new problem: teaching how to respond quickly to the double team.
