With the exception of a last second loss to Alex Rosenberg (revenge for him!) a few years ago, Harvard has generally prevailed rather easily at home vs the Lions in recent years.

After losing some players, including electric PG Mike Smith, Columbia seems to have figured out its rotation, tending to play games very close to the finish.

Princeton had success running Columbia off the 3 point line, holding the Lions to only 43 points including a 2-18 long range shooting debacle a week ago.

Princeton didn't shoot much better at 4-20, but Columbia's defections exposed a frontline that was outrebounded 48(!)-31.

I expect that Columbia has to make 3's to compete - as it did in the second half against Penn. Note that Penn shot 5-20 from 3 in that game as well.

Thus, this could be a game where both squads try and guard the 3 point line, forcing Harvard to go inside against Tape. If Tape gets in foul trouble, Harvard could dominate in the paint. If Lewis gets in foul trouble and/or Columbia gets it's 3's, the game could be interesting. This could be game better suited to Djuricic as opposed to Baker.

I expect the Crimson to take the ball to the hoop aggressively and to guard Columbia tightly outside, funneling scorers Stefanini and Adlesh into the shot blockers.

Harvard almost never presses full court, but tonight could be one of the rare instances where Amaker might be tempted.

It's Tapé, and he shall get into foul trouble; but -kindly pardon my ignorance- who's Djuricic??

Danilo Djuricic is a 6’7” sophomore forward from Canada. He tends to be the 3rd big behind Lewis and Baker. Very versatile, he can rebound, shoot 3’s and aggressively slash to the basket to score and put back rebounds.

He plays 22 minutes on average. He excels in certain circumstances.

Thanks, HDG. And enjoy the games; you may like Cornell's Boeheim- his dad was coaching Syracuse even back when you sort of were a player.

Should be an exciting weekend. My brother went to the Cuse so I’m aware.

For anyone who didn't see it, I'm just going to leave this here. One of the shots of the year. Aiken had 44 of our 98, despite getting banged up pretty badly.

Baker didn't score a ton, but he was a difference-maker defensively. Must have had six or seven blocks. Was interesting to see Amaker go with him as our center from the end of the fourth on after Lewis got beaten pretty badly by Tape on a spin move.

Columbia just made *tough* shots all night long. That's Stefanini's specialty. Would have liked to have seen us foul when we were up three with under five seconds left at the end of regulation and not given him the chance to make the shot he did.

Kirkwood plays good defense, but his decision-making and handle (especially with his left) can still be really shaky. Every time he touches the ball you can almost see the turnover coming.

Wow!
Incredibly competitive contest. If you have access to ESPN+, watch this game. At least do so from the final minutes of regulation.

I had expressed my belief that Harvard would not win this weekend by the margins it had last weekend. That was an understatement. Columbia was well prepared and game coached, and played with head and heart.

Thanks for Bryce Aiken. Once he took over this game he was amazing.

Of course there will be much more written about a 3OT thriller filled with buzzer beaters, a 45 foot banked shot (Adlesh?) and a double pump three by Aiken over/under Tape at the end of the first OT.

Note that Aiken did this while bleeding through his knee wrap as his surgery opened up and eventually had to leave with a cramp ... and 44 points.

Bring on Morgan (41pts tonight) and the Big Red?

Aiken's shot was Sportscenter's top play of the day. Just an incredible performance. Just think if we could get Seth back...

This game probably looks a lot more like the Dartmouth one to open the Ivy campaign than a victory without Bryce Aiken. Columbia got exactly the recipe that it needed: 12-for-26 from three and forcing 20% TOs, 10% on steals. Without Aiken, that TO rate probably would have been a few ticks higher, which even aside from Bryce's production, would have been enough lost possessions to lose the game.

You have to foul up three. Pretty shocking that Harvard was unable to do that twice and once ended up getting a three made on them and another time ended up yielding three free throws.

Bryce had never cracked 40% usage in his career - great to see him do that last night after there was so much question as to whether he'd ever be the same again. Also fitting to see him do it against Columbia - the team against which he finally threw in the towel last season.

Noah had a really rough night - both with the six turnovers and the 0-for-2 from the line. But credit him for making a big shot when it mattered. Agree, though, that he's going to have to be tighter off the bounce and better with his decision making to be effective next season.

Will be very interesting to see what this team has left tonight against Cornell. Juzang went the most minutes, Aiken went over 15 mins more than any game since his return, and Bassey will get the Morgan assignment after 43 mins last night.

Going to need to have Cornell be a little colder than Columbia was last night to walk out with the sweep.
