Cornell (4-2, 12-10 overall) is home this weekend to take on Brown and Yale.

Friday Game Notes:
https://cornellbigred.com/documents/2019/2/11// 23_...

Projected Lineup continues to be Morgan (g), Davis (g), Boeheim (f), Warren (f) and Julian (f)

The Big Red head into the game tied for 2nd place with Harvard and Princeton. They have matched their win total for last year, when they were 12-16.

They have done a good job taking advantage of problems with Penn (Max Rothschild limited minutes from injury), Dartmouth (Adrease Jackson and Will Emery out with injuries), and Harvard (Justin Bassey out; team played 3 OT the night before) over the last 2 weeks.

Looking at the conference stats, Morgan has 23.2 (1st), Warren has 14.5 (10th) and Boeheim has 11.5 (17th). Warren has 7.0 rebounds (8th) and Julian has 6.3 (11th). Julian is leading the league in steals (2.3) and blocks (2.0).

As a team, the Big Red are leading the league in 3 point shooting with 38.2%, Assist Rate of 55.3% and Free Throw Rate of 41.5%.

They are struggling on the boards. They are last with a -5.3 rebounding margin and a 22.1% offensive rebounding rate, while they are 7th with a 70.4% defensive rebounding rate.

They are also having trouble guarding the two pointers, as they are last at 55.2%.

Looking at KP, they are ranked #219 and underdogs against #147 Brown (69-67) and #72 Yale (74-67). They have beaten Brown four times in a row, for whatever that's worth.

Last year, they got into the Ivy Tournament with 6 wins. Right now, YUSAG mentions that Cornell and Columbia have the hardest remaining schedule. Also, KP only favors them against Dartmouth at home on the last night of the season. While a sweep would be tough, a win against Brown on Friday seems realistic.

Hopefully, the students will come out to support the team.

"They have beaten Brown four times in a row, for whatever that's worth." Not much, I hope.

Earl has done a great job working with what he has and advancing his style of play. Note the assist rate and the high three-point shooting percentage, as well as the weak rebounding. If they could eke out a few more DRs per game without giving up anything else defensively they'd tip some games in their favor.

Two things Cornell is doing a lot better during league play are: 3 point shooting -- #1 in league play, but below average during OOC action -- and forcing turnovers -- again best in the league in conference games, but woeful during OOC play. I have a bad feeling that one, or both, can't be sustained for 14 games.

Still, Earl has the team playing its best basketball during league play for the second straight season. That is great to see.

In each game on the Northern New England swing, nine Big Red players logged at least 11 minutes each. I doubt this was accidental. Its another sign of how well Brian Earl understands the intricacies of coaching in the IL by having all his players ready to play quality minutes during the back-to-back portion of the season.
