In a winner take all situation I believe we can. It was pretty much a tie game at the 4 minute media timeout last time up there. I truly believe that if we can just sneak in, we can do real damage. I was hoping to get in off of 2 losses Vs Yale but that probably can’t happen now. I’d be lying if I said last night didn’t ruin my weekend.

So he's actually thinking about the return match at Lavietes in two weeks' time. I guess he's referring to the difficult time suffered by Penn Nation.

Absolutely. I continue to think (and I think the results show this) that we are better suited to play Brown, Harvard, and Yale than we are to play the rest of the league. So I’m more worried about whether we dump one of the other games than I am about what happens at Yale if we get there.

We’re more or less even money to make the Ivy tournament. Not where we wanted to be, but we’re not dead yet. Will need to sweep this weekend, which is something we haven’t pulled off yet. Now is the time.

Cornell has a very difficult remaining schedule, FWIW.

Yeah, so... that sucked huh?

Delayed response as I've been traveling internationally in Asia for a few weeks (glad I signed up for a paid VPN service to be able to watch video replays...).

I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole game and didn't really have time, but I did watch the last 13 or so minutes (from score 41-40 until the bitter end). What I find particularly ironic here is that what I saw was I thought the best basketball we've played in weeks. Certainly best ball movement of any Ivy game except for maybe Brown, and overall great desire, hustle, and teamwork.

In the end a few misfortunate things went against us... Aiken 3 that bounced off the rim, off the backboard and in, AJ layup bounced off the rim and out, and AJ and Max standing next to each other but the rebound tip bouncing off AJ's hand to Kirkwood who made the brilliant quick decision to hand the ball to Aiken.

Yes we should have fouled with 2 to give, but in a scramble, crap just happens. I do think Dev rushed it too much, but hard spot and he had a great game. In the end, we got beat by a HELL of a player in Aiken. I think he is frankly so much better than last year even with the time off. Dude can just ball.

Really until the last 2 mins it looks like we did an admirable job on both Aiken and Lewis as well.

I didn't bother to watch overtime (nothing good to see there), but I think we all knew that once it went to overtime that we likely didn't have anything left in the tank (once I saw they tied, I sadly expected this result after OT day before).

Let's see what happens. I think we can sweep next weekend at home and make it interesting, but really no margin for error left. I think we need 5-1 from here with a win over Yale and/or Harvard to get in safely (4-2 might work but too many risks with tiebreakers).

Oh yeah, a few more points...

Don't get me wrong, I was really disappointed, but I lowered my expectations for the team a few weeks ago and it has been for the best. Love the fight this team has and the teamwork, but we're really an experienced player short of being a 14 game Ivy Champ contender. Firmly believe with Betley this would have been a special season, but such is life and I think Harvard is in the same boat.

Feels like Dev has rediscovered himself and is playing great and AJ taken to the next level. Add Ryan to that? Man that would have been fun.

But instead we're depending on two very good freshman, but they are freshman... 18 points between the 2 of them on a 2 game Ivy weekend makes it difficult for this offense to score enough points to win. This is particularly true for Bryce who has been so dependable before the last few weekends. He hits a single 3 against Harvard we win. Hoping for a big bounceback from them at home next weekend.

That said, very excited about Bryce and Mike both in a the long run. I don't think I would trade them for any other frosh class at this point.

Soph class without Jelani on the other hand has been a problem since they haven't contributed enough. Let's see what they can do next year (haven't given up yet).

For now though, let's get that sweep we need next weekend. Let's Go Quakers.

I had been thinking that if Washington had shot 3-7 in regulation, we'd likely have won it without going to overtime.

To put some numbers on the back to backs for the freshman, Bryce is 10 of 15 from 3 in the Friday night games, and 2 for 21 in the Saturday games. Mike is 3 for 17 on Saturdays when playing back to back (he shot better against Harvard after sitting out Friday).

Each year, every team in the league has freshmen acclimating to back to back games. I do not remember the Saturday numbers being this different for past freshmen.

We frequently discuss freshmen "hitting the wall." Other freshmen have had to adjust to league games where opponents now accurately scout them. See, e.g, Brodeur 2017. Friday-Saturday differences are new to me.

If someone looks up prior year numbers for past freshmen at Penn, or at any other league school, I would like to see if this has happened before to such an extreme degree.

Stu - I agree with you. AJ definitely tailed off down the stretch of his freshman year; however, the disparity from Friday night to Sat night seems unusual. You’d think young people could have enough energy to handle back to backs, especially at home. I also think Steve understands that practice schedules may need modification during this part of the season. It is sort of a mystery to me.

Agreed. I just sold my ILT tickets to BRF. That should ensure a P's sweep of the C's this weekend.

That has to be over the top tongue in cheek..Otto would not sell his tickets if Penn had a 1/1000 chance to get in.

<Removing misdirected egg from face>

10Q, that was a gentle poke at BRF, not you.

I just had a brief flashback to his Rivals-era persona, and it occurred to me his rantings there could have been the first public use of 'alternative facts'.
