Yes, the players deserved this exciting 79-77 overtime victory over Penn. Great first half from Patrick Tape and then two super clutch shots by Maka Ellis with the clock running down in overtime to win the game.

Brilliant game for Tape, who outplayed Brodrik, Stef and Maka Ellis. We showed incredible guts in the last 2 minutes of OT. Ellis is going to be a player.
And Engles managed a great game.

In overtime, Ellis on the inbound with .3 seconds left, 79-77 Columbia.
Stefanini with 20, Ellis and Tape both with 14, and most importantly, especially in the first half, Tape played Brodeur pretty much even. After 8 losses by 3 pts or less, the last shot finally goes in.

It’s obviously wonderful that we finally won one of these, but more important for the long term future of the program is that the the coaches have managed, despite all of the back luck and disappointing finishes, to keep the team focused, playing hard and, most importantly, playing together. As C.J. Davis noted on this week’s podcast, our mantra is “team first†and our players have bought into that. It’s HOW we’re playing that, in my view, makes the team worthy of our full throated support.

Is it now time to go with the future and start Ellis and Bibbs and bring Adlesh and Killingsworth off the bench?

As long as Bibbs and Ellis get plenty of minutes, does it matter if they start? Ellis got injured on his game-winner, so hope he’s ok, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him sit out tonight.
I found it encouraging that they were able to pull out a road win WITHOUT getting hot from long range. Adlesh was 1 for 9 from 3 last night. Contributions from just about everyone... a real nice game for Tape, Barba and Stefanini (nearly had a triple double).
And speaking of Barba, his block and coast to coast layup to tie it in OT was one of the best/clutch plays of the season. The senior has really earned his playing time this season. Job well done.

Adlesh has been cold lately. Hopefully he heats up again. Good point about Barba hanging in there and finally getting some important minutes as a senior.
