Prior to Cannady's absence, 1 of 3 players needed to step up for the Tigers to compete -- DesRosiers, Schwieger or Much as it would put 5 good players on the court with Devin, Myles, Richmond and Jaelin. DesRosiers has stepped up on the defensive and rebounding end although his offensive game has been uneven.
Lo and behold, Schwieger has really stepped up while Much is still not there as evidenced by the amount of minutes that he received last night.
I had it wrong about Schwieger -- simply missed it. Somehow, Mitch finds players like Stephens, Arirguzoh and Schwieger and the coaching staff develop these guys to become key players.
I do not think that there is enough talent behind the starting 5 to get to the promised land - IL regular season championship but the Tigers have enjoyed a great run.

Much was injured in the first half. No word on his status for tonight. I hope we have him because he looks for, and often gets, good three point looks. No word on Henderson yet either, except that he "was sick" prior to the game.

A 23 point night, as the kid produced against Cornell, might well be considered fluky. But to get 20 the next night and 26 last night demonstrates a trend. This kid knows what he can do, a very different thing than hoping. Derosiers playing with a lot of confidence as well. If Jaelin ever finds his stroke we'll be very good. The winner tonight avoids the fourth place seeding. If the Tigers finish at 8-6 and so does Brown I believe Bruno gets the third seed.

I want the IL Crown. Yale can have the damn Tourney. I’ll cheer for them when they play a #2 seed.

I am with you but one can only hope that the Tigers want the IL crown as badly after qualifying for IvyMadness last night. I hope so and believe that they will play hard tonight even with the OT game.
For IvyMadness weekend, our family goes skiing. Our hopes were that the slopes would be empty in New England with everyone glued to IvyMadness but we have not found that to be the case.
Wish the Tigers well for IvyMadness but hope that the #1 seed gets the trip to the Big Dance like you.

Jaelin currently has the worst true shooting percentage of any Ivy player with 20%+ usage since at least 2008:

On the other end, Matt Morgan this year is at the top of that leaderboard (on 31% usage!)

ESPN game predictor has Tigers with a 24% chance to win and they will probably be a 6 1/2-7 pt underdog.
KenPom still has the Tigers as the 5th ranked IL team although we are getting closer to Brown and the Quakerites.

My thoughts exactly.
Beaten them twice with a better record in the Ivy League.
Unfortunately, for me, Mr. Ken Pom doesn't post a phone number to back up his opinions.

It is called the goofy world of analytics and statisticians. Might be also one of the reasons why mid-majors have been historically screwed.
Look at the bright side -- in the unlikely event that we win out, the Tigers may move into 3rd place in the KenPom ratings and tie or win the IL regular season -- you gotta love it.

Kenpom's numbers are based on scoring margin adjusted for the strength of opponent and the location of the game. The reason being that scoring margin tends to be more predictive of a team's actual strength than just W-L.
Losing by 51 to Duke, and barely pulling out close wins over teams ranked around 300 (Monmouth and Lafayette) are the types of things that will sink your rating even if you have a good record overall.

Penn is ranked higher than Princeton in every ranking system, not just KenPom, but also the NCAA's Net Rating, T-Rank, Sagarin, etc because they all look at the entire body of work, not just conference play. And in out-of-conference play, Penn's resume is so much better (Villanova, Miami, Temple, St. Joe's, @New Mexico), while Princeton has losses to Lehigh and FDU, and really only the one great win at Arizona State.

Any formula fed into a computer can generate absurd outcomes, like Penn still being considered a better basketball team than Princeton at this point in the season. I would think these things could be tweaked to make the output line up more closely with actual results and current realities. Does KenPom discout results from early in the season, for example? Princeton’s miserable play at the beginning of the season is completely irrelevant to its current situation.

Never cared about rankings. You win, you're in or advance. I know they might theoretically matter to seeding, but I'm of the opinion ivies get discounted for that purpose, no matter what.

So many clumsy TOs and offensive boards conceded. After clinching the tourney berth last night, the guys lack urgency tonight.
Harvard has Senior Night and Kyrie in attendance...they're just playing a lot harder.
