As expected, Nate Jones will get the start. It will be his first start since early in his sophomore year with a couple of exceptions last year that were due to player(s) sitting for disciplinary reasons.

iirc, he got a couple starts this year when Sotos was out.

I have a tough decision on whether to stream the Army game or go over to Kirby and root against Colgate in person.

Army Game 03-01-19 04:50 PM - Post#278589

I doubt there have ever been that many scenarios. The only somewhat similar year was likely 2008 - but then there were only eight teams so far less scenarios.
That year the standings going into the final game were:
T1 American 9-4
T1 Navy 9-4
T3 Colgate 6-7
T3 Lehigh 6-7
T3 Lafayette 6-7
T3 Bucknell 6-7
T7 Army 5-8
T7 Holy Cross 5-8
There was a chance on the final day that both Army and Holy Cross could move from a tie for last up to a tie for 3rd, since none of the 6-7 teams were playing each other. Could realistically have had a six-way tie for 3rd place.

And here were the final standings that year:
American 10 4
Navy 9 5
Colgate 7 7
Lehigh 7 7
Army 6 8
Lafayette 6 8
Bucknell 6 8
Holy Cross 5 9
Needless to say, it also gave us this in the patriot league tournament:

Starters 2-14 in early going. This is not a good shooting team. Too many games where they have been cold. I tire of the overwhelming reliance on 3-point shooting. Maybe if you had a Bryson Johnson but not this particular team.

Astoundingly poor finish to the season. Has a Buknell team ever done this before, have a 2 game lead with five games to play and then proceed to lose four of the last five games? Still time to pull this one out, but overall end to the season is disappointing. I understand the refs are bad but...

Oops, Phillie! But I was thinking the same thing. Great finish, and the crowd was a factor. We needed that. That was 30+ minutes of crap basketball followed by a fantastic finish.

And we've won the tourney as a second seed before, so I'm not worried. Its and uphill climb, but it just comes down to 3 days in March. I'm really happy for the seniors that they were able to go out with a win, and excited that a Freshman led the bison in scoring today.

Yes, I gave up too soon. But in my defense, the first 33 minutes were not good basketball and outside of the Laf game, the previous four games were not quality either. But this was a great last few minutes of regular season play for the Bison. I won’t worry about the PL tourney final until th appropriate time. We need to worry about and focus on the quarterfinal game. Hopefully this shooting slump ends.

Now we just wait to see how the league shakes out, hope that we take care of business, and that somebody takes care of Colgate so we can get a home final. That said it will probably be a Navy vs Loyola final.

Season end run cost us the NIT insurance policy, and any chance Kimbal might have had at POY. Think it goes to the big Colgate kid.

Funk has played well the last few games. He might be our secret weapon in the tournament. Have to say Newman did a nice job on Wilson while he was in there.

My predictions are rarely accurate, but I did pick us for 13 wins. Just didn't expect we'd do it quite this way. 8th regular season title in 9 years is awfully impressive. Congrats to Coach Davis and the team. Colgate deserves the #1 seed, but the real season starts now.

Some stats on the two Bison games with Army this year:
Game 1: Army led for 36:38 (i.e. 36 minutes and 38 seconds). Bucknell led for 0:59.
Game 2: Army led for 38:37. Bucknell led for 0:10.
TOTAL: Army led for 75:15. Bucknell led for 1:09.
Game 1: Army win probability (Pomeroy) was 96.5% when they led by 26 points early in the second half.
Game 2: Army win probability was 94.3% when they led by 12 points with 5:45 left in the game.

Forgot to mention that once again the PL sent a borderline incompetent trio of refs to Lewisburg. One of the three has only reffed a handful of D1 games in his career. In four years, he has never had more than four D1 assignments in a year. An another, Jeff Janosik, has been dropped by most leagues about five years ago.
What is sad is that this crew was much more qualified than the trio last Saturday vs Lafayette, where two of the three officials were guys who almost never get a D1 assignment.

Surprised that no one mentioned a couple of key stats and factors in this big comeback win:
Sotos had a tough shooting game and is obviously hurting with his right shoulder banged during the contest. The coaches pulled Sotos in the late stretch in favor of Funk who was hot. Give the staff credit there. Maybe it helped Kimbal late in the game too with more ball handling.
Also, give Nate credit for 4 blocked shots, smart defense on Wilson, and 17 rebounds! He is a warrior that we will miss. He came back in the game after taking a knee to the head and getting tested for a concussion. I thought he’d be back and he delivered. Too much complaining about Big Country on this board IMO.
Overall 8 PL regular season titles in the last 9 years? Great achievement. I’m not complaining! Life is good!!

too much complaining about the team, players, coaching, at times on this board, some posters are never or rarely satisfied. the team is far from perfect at times but I wouldn't trade them for any other Patriot League team, the biggest difference with our league and the NBA Minor League Conference teams, these young men are student athletes. I am very fortunate to interact with these young men and women on a daily basis, I would hard pressed to think there were better college kids out there.

I made a few comments during the game about Nate’s shooting which has been lacking in the last two games. Lots of clunkers from outside and misses underneath. It’s not a complaint, just a fact. I was also aware, and should have commented about the fact that he played a monster game on defense from start to finish.
As for complaining in general, that what boards do guys. In fact complaining about complaining IS simply complaining. That is what we do. That, and we also go way over the top when things go well.

Mr Philly - you have it right. We’re all alcoholics now...â€it’s 1 game at a timeâ€
I thought the game was a 2:00 start....missed the first 36 minutes...how lucky was I ðŸ€
I realize Nate had 17 rebounds but Wilson was 9-15 again. Nate in my mind should defend the entry pass much more aggressively as opposed to having to defend post players positioned lower on the box than we should allow. We have also played the best defensively when we’ve dropped a second defender to dig out the post. The staff clearly prefers to play straight up and trade “tough 2’s†vs “easier 3’sâ€...it’s a pick your poison
