Why is Spec coverage of CU Men's BB virtually non-existent?

I had to go to Penn, Brown, and Yale student newspapers to read about Columbia's three recent wins. Nothing in Spec about any of them. What and why is this the case?

Moreover, if you click on the SPORTS heading and click on Basketball, what you'll find (as of today, 5 March 2019) is that three of the six past articles are dated 29 November 2018. That's year 2018. This March, 2019.

Hello! Is anybody home?

I have noticed that, too. Usually, they have some aspiring sports journalist assigned to cover basketball. Apparently, however, this year, whoever was covering the team stopped doing so last fall, and they have not been able to find anyone to replace them. This gap in their sports coverage screams particularly loudly when Columbia upsets both Brown and Yale over an-away weekend, and there is absolutely no mention of this turn-around in the paper.

It's not clear that there is a robust sports section these days. Tennis' matches are covered but not much about recent events of others.
On The Firing Lion last Wednesday, there was a throwaway comment about Spec sports, suggesting there's something awry.

I bet there is not another college or university in America that has a student newspaper, and a men's and women's basketball team, that doesn't cover--and I mean really cover--not only BB, but also every other varsity team they have.

At best, this is journalistic negligence; at worst, it is a slap in the faces of student athletes (I can use that phrase when speaking about COLUMBIA student athletes) who spend enormous amounts of time and energy.

I've been a follower of Columbia athletics for more than a half-century, and I simply cannot remember anything like this happening before.

Think how the Columbia athletes must feel, how their families and friends must feel, how their fellow students must feel.

Don't tell me Pilling, and even Bollinger, never read Spec. Of course they do. So why haven't either of them spoken up?

No wonder the undergraduate student body remains essentially apathetic toward Columbia athletics, not to mention prospective recruits who might get wind of this inexcusable Spec lethargy.

Such indolence!

1. As a Spec sportswriter during my 4 years and an avid fan of the Lions since, I'm very disappointed in the current situation. (My email to Spec has gone unanswered.)

2. Getting someone in the Administration involved would be a mistake. But, we don't know what Pilling has done, if anything.

3.Anyone who's disappointed in the state of affairs and can get to Spec's office to talk with a knowledgeable person should.

I am reluctant to post on other teams' boards but I am certain you will forgive me this once. I am so happy for the Lions in their recent surge. Tape's development has been marvelous to watch as has that of our Richmond A. Tape has been the only 5 player who essentially neutralized RA all season. You gotta love Gabe who will be All-Ivy at some point. His pregame interview with Noah Savage was hilarious. They were conversing in Italian with subtitles. Gabe told Noah, "Your Italian is very poor and you eat too much!" Good stuff.

Richmond A was very complimentary of Tape after the last game. Very classy. Contrast please with churlish comments in the New Haven newspaper from the Yale coach and senior forward about the Columbia win. In any event, we seem to match up better with the other Ivies than with Princeton.

A new website has emerged to cover Columbia Athletic among other things. Apparently, the current managing board of Spectator is caught up in the politics of the Democratic/Socialist Left and is not interested in sports of any kind. It's sort of like the remarkable New York Times phenomenon where the Times sportswriters have seemingly become hatchet men for the anti-sports movement. I'm not certain where all this going, but clearly it's an issue not just at Columbia, but many other places.

Here''s the story on the new website:

WKCR, to raise $$, didn't carry the Yale game but went to a program that pitched for contributions; it will do something similar for the Harvard game said someone on the Firing Lion last night.
