I know the Patriot League winner gets an automatic bid to the NIT but will Bucknell get this since they were only co-champs?

That stinks. Guess that's it then watching our Bison. Gonna miss Kimbal and Nate. Great seniors. Really think we will be out of it for couple years. Not sure if I saw enough from our young guys to make me feel better about 2019-20 season.

I will be at the women's game tomorrow making plenty of noise. Bison basketball is not over.

We are spoiled by the automatic NIT bid. Let's face facts. The Bison controlled its own destiny and lost to HC and Navy. I respect Kimbal, Nate, and Nate as much as anyone but they don't deserve an NIT bid based on their body of work this year.

I agree. If we had a very young team that could mature by playing in the CBI, maybe, just maybe, it would make sense.

NIT Bid 03-14-19 12:21 PM - Post#281282

I am not a big fan of these events, but would not be opposed if the seniors want to keep the season going. For those who don'f keep track, there are big differences between the two events. The CIT is sponsored by College Insider and is only for midmajors. It will not take teams with losing records. The CBI caters to mediocre major programs and takes teams with any record if they can draw fans.
In recent years, every PL team except Bucknell, Lafayette, and Navy have gone to one of these tournaments. The CIT, which is only for midmajors, has had American, Army, Boston U (twice), Holy Cross, and Loyola. Colgate (last year) and Lehigh have gone to the CBI.
I like the CIT better because College Insider has supported midmajor basketball. In addition to the many PL teams that have gone, there have been many teams from the Ivy, MAAC, and America East, among others.
One issue is that a team has to be willing to put up money, which can be recouped if it hosts one or more rounds and draws a decent crowd. I doubt the Bucknell administration - which has not supported athletics much in recent years - would guarantee the money. So to accept an invitation, the team might have to find a couple of supportive alums to fund it.

During the post-game interview with Doug Coach Davis said its NCAA, NIT or nothing.
I'm paraphrasing; however, he said something along the lines of "kids don't come to play basketball at Bucknell to play in those kinds of tournaments (e.g. CIT/CBI)...they come to play in the NCAA or NIT."
Although I can see some value for a young team in those tournaments it sounds like they are done for the year.

Don’t know if it means anything, but the whole team and ND and Coach Meehan were at the women’s game. Perhaps they’re going to continue practicing with a post season tourney in mind.

Again, if we’d taken care of business down the stretch, we would have had home court, and the NIT fallback. Spilled milk. No use crying. Time to move on.

Well, if they want to continue, it is a done deal. A bid to CIT and/or CBI is a sure thing.

Via webcasts, I've seen players and coaches at several women's games. I'd imagine this is just a continuation of that support and interest.

Yes, and vice versa as well. Whenever they were in town, virtually all players were there for support.

As much as we all would love to see this team play again, the Championship at Colgate was their final game.

I understand why ND said NCAA/NIT or nothing, but I find it hard to believe that the seniors would not want to play at least one more game even though it's the CBI or CIT. It extends their college careers and, who knows, they could make a decent run. Maybe I'm selfish, but I would love to see one more game.
