Hoop Time can confirm the Bracket Buster matchup will be Bucknell at Northern Iowa.
Game time expected to be 11 central, noon eastern on ESPN 2.

ESPN went a little early w/ its announcement (not 4pm as indicated on the BU website). Lunardi said on ESPNews that Bucknell has the most to gain w/ a victory and, in his opinion, if they were to win out but lose in the conf. final they would still receive an at large bid.
As someone noted in an earlier post, I doubt the team is looking at any other scenario aside from winning the conf. tourney.

Also, UNI just cracked the top 25...24 in the USA Today/ESPN, and 25 in the AP. Let's hope they stay there through Feb. 18!
Also, somebody (Ralph Willard) gave BU a 1st place vote in the midmajor poll. Rather surprising that BU is ahead of UNI in that one.

Cool. I'll be a big UNI fan for the next 5 weeks outside of that one Saturday. If we could knock them off, that would easily be our best win, particularly considering how Cuse has fallen off the face of the earth.

ESPN will not officially announce dates/times for another week. I assume that BU and NI have already been given the info for planning purposes and that the "expectation" is pretty firm??
I'm a bit surprised by the time and network. ESPN, in its press release calls this matchup the "headline game", yet it ends up on TV at 11 AM midwestern time on the lesser-watched ESPN2, even though three other games will be on ESPN. . . . http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2312354

i thought only one game was on ESPN and it is at 11 PM. if that is the case then ESPN2 makes sense although the time is hardly prime.

First of all i want to say that all of us panther fans are looking forward to a great game against you!!!! Most of the UNI fans really respect what your basketball team has done this year. should be a great game!
secondly, Which midmajor pole are you ahead of the panthers in? college sports website has UNI number one and i havent seen one where BU is ahead of UNI. here is the link i am talking about. maybe you could point the one out to me that you are ahead of the panthers in. A noon EST time slot is not that bad. It would start after College GameDay. Although GameDay is on ESPN, if they discuss the game, they could get a lot of viewers to switch over.

Really looking forward to this one, though I wholeheartedly agree with GoBison: thank goodness for the early Saturday game. As excited as I am for Bucknell to have an opportunity to showcase their talent againt a highly respected opponent on national TV, I'm very happy the team will have a chance to rest before conference play resumes.
What a great 10 days that will be: HC @ the Hart; on the road to Lafayette (whose better-than-expected performance still impresses me); on the road to UNI (top 25 -- wow!); then, home @ Lehigh (who, if they keep grinding, will have a chance to control their own destiny). What a thrill!

I have to agree with Bison137. We're no Gonzaga...yet.
NI's ranking, if they can hold on to it, may just give us the oppurtunity to get ranked ourselves if we can beat them.
Anybody have any thoughts on how we match up with them?

Yeah, it's pretty silly. We're good but haven't shown 'Zaga strength yet. And #2 ahead of UNI could be considered iffy as well, esp. with their victory over LSU looking stronger every day.
But I do think we are a top 5 midmajor which, while I attended, would've been shouted down from the cheap seats. Could be a top 25 (though even a big win @ UNI wouldn't do it, jck45 -- weak PL OOC record this year doesn't do much for our reputation, whether we win out or not). We have a ridiculously strong program right now and, as best I can tell, for the next 2-3 years.
UNIPanther -- early Saturday game info: www.hooptimeonline.com. Far from definitive but Hoop Time wouldn't have listed the UNI Admin. as a source 'less it was legit.

As mentioned on another thread ("Dreaded 8-9 game"), Flannery was not at all happy about having to make a cross country flight in the middle of conference play. Which raises the question, what was he thinking? Most of us have known this was the most likely matchup for over a month, so it is hard to see how he could not have known. ESPN is in the television business--why would anyone expect them to pass up a match featuring the best home and best away teams in them bracket buster? In fact while I don't like being in the position of defending ESPN, not to make this match would have been irresponsible from their pov.

UNI won this evening against Wichita State 68-56 at UNI. Just FYI for those keeping tabs on the Panthers. Eric Coleman had 20 pts at the half. Four guys in double figures.
Games left before out matchup next Saturday are Missouri State at UNI (Saturday) and at Indiana State (next Tuesday). Missouri State is not a slouch, keeping up hope that they could win out and get an at large bid but it's at home. Indiana State should be a victory but it's at Indiana State. Good chance UNI will pick up those two games which should mean we stay ranked for our game. Hopefully the Bison can get into the Top 25 by then as well.

Congrats on the WS win PW. Hopefully we can follow suit on the road vs Holy Cross on Sat, which shapes up as a PL showdown game. That definitely is the toughest of our 3 games pre the bracket buster, and is one of games that most of us following the Bison think we could lose.

Just a head's up - depending on your cable or satellite provider if you get it - the UNI/Mizzou State game is on FCS-Central right now. UNI is down 4 right now with 4 min left in the 1st Half.

We just got back from a trip to Cedar Falls to see UNI play in person. This was our first time back to our alma mater for my wife and me in twenty years.
Just a comment, while everyone was disappointed in the loss one thing that may be missed his how well the Missouri State team played. I've been a basketball fan for many years including multiple Big Ten conference tournaments and sweet sixteen games. In my estimation both these teams played well enough to beat teams that will no doubt be in the NCAA Tournament. It will be a shame if either of the teams I saw on Saturday isn’t playing in March.
