The rest of my family are Georgetown fans, so I am very familiar with their team.
Overall, an especially inconsistent team. They have two freshman guards who are capable of putting up big numbers, but are also prone to pretty selfish play. And their big guy Govan, while a versatile offensive threat, is an extreme defensive liability who I hope we relentlessly put in pick and roll.
They were almost on the NCAA bubble, but in two of their last three games laid absolute eggs. They lost at DePaul (KP 103) by 32, and then, two games later, trailed Seton Hall (KP 55) by 25 at halftime of the Big East quarterfinals. They let Seton Hall's best player, a scoring point guard very much like Aiken, outscore them all by himself in the first half.
This will probably be played at Georgetown's little-used on campus gym, which is Ivy-sized (~2000). It's a winnable game.

It is indeed being played at McDonough Gym.

Should also mention that I don't think Georgetown has played/practiced at McDonough in a while. The Thompson Center opened two or three years ago.
I'm sure that they are practicing at McDonough this week though...

Two things -
1: If I'm not mistaken, Amaker was in the discussion to take over for Georgetown before giving the job to Ewing. Whether the interest was real or not was another matter. After the game, it will be interesting to see if Hoya fans are happy with their choice.
2: McDonough seats 2,000. Make it seem like an option for the 2026 Ivy Tournament ..... (is it too soon?)

Will be interesting to see who plays for Harvard. I wouldn't be surprised if we rest Lewis, Bassey, and Juzang considering that they've all been playing through injuries.
Could be a lot of Haskett, Catchings, Forbes, and Djuricic to go along with Aiken and Kirkwood. Would be nice if we could see Baker again too.

Reminds me of last year when Bassey led the charge vs Marquette in the absence of Towns and Aiken.
Starters last year were Lewis, Bassey, Juzang, Perez and Corey Johnson. Crimson scored 60 points, 26 of them in the last 'quarter' when Bassey took over, scoring 13 of his 19 points. Could Perez and Johnson be the only repeat starters? Yes, would be great to see Robert Baker back on the floor.
Let's not get anyone hurt and have some fun. Maybe the nation can be introduced to Mr. Aiken.

Have to admit it's fun to watch Forbes and Catchings fly around out there. Not sure how much fun the games will be for the walking wounded--Bassey was pretty limited against Yale.

Haven't seen Bassey or Juzang jump or drive hard to the hoop in about a month. Likewise, possibly no dunks from Lewis in that same time period.
All were used primarily for defensive purposes but they just weren't able to contribute on offense. These aren't slumps or defenses figuring them out. They haven't even been attempting the same plays they used to regularly score on. Shooting %'s and ppg must have dropped precipitously. This isn't compared to a small sample, but rather 1.5 to 2.5 years of performance. Rebounding and blocked shots dropped off as well.
As one fan said to me, if was very frustrating watching our walking wounded this past weekend.
Hope whatever ails them can heal up before next season and isn't reoccuring.

At this point, four out of the five likely starters to begin the season are either out or so banged up that it might be better if they're out.
While I guess I'd sign up for three Bryce Aiken 40-plus-point games to get them to MSG, it's probably best that they lose tonight. This team badly needs to get healthy and not incur any further damage. With Chris Ledlum coming in and Seth Towns returning, it's not like by giving rotation players starting minutes we're "seeing the future" anyway - at least not a future that's relevant until 2020-21. The top seven for next year will be Bryce, Seth, Noah, Juzang, Ledlum, Lewis and Bassey. Tonight, the bulk of minutes will likely go to players outside that top 7.

Cornell already played with a truncated lineup last night.
Assuming Swain is OK, Yale is by far the healthiest team at this juncture. They survive!

Amaker rides Baker, Welsh & Haskett for much of last 10 minutes to beat Georgetown 71-68.
Go figure.

My Georgetown superfan family was able to get me tickets. Really, really solid win. Baker was the one who turned the tide for us. We were down 5 around the 10 minute mark and had just taken Aiken out, and then Baker made two threes and had a bunch of deflections on defense. It was enough that we managed to make a run without Bryce.
This was also the best Lewis has looked in a long time. Hopefully he's starting to feel better. Bassey gutted through another game. He was visibly limping down the court but still was able to play good defense and hit a few big shots.
It'd be great if Baker could build some more confidence. We're going to need him again against NC State.

Harvard gets to play (what should have easily been) a tourney team after all.
Gonna be a real step up in class from Georgetown, and with UNCG and Lipscomb on the other side NC St could be sensing a trip to MSG is within reach.

Harvard should be unbeatable next year. So much talent for a midmajor.
Not sure how yale beat them once and had them in the ropes 2x.
That should change next year as painful as it is. Their talent will reflect well on the IL which is great.
also you are either injured or you aren’t. Nearly everyone feels hurt this time of year. See makai on one foot.

Good win and great to see both Brown and Harvard win tonight. NC State at their place will be tough but who knows where their head will be and be nice to give them a game.

That was impressive. So many guys who have size and talent. I think the relentless shot-blocking at the rim got in the Hoyas' heads a little bit, even when they were able to draw a foul.
And I know Aiken's overall stats look good, but, man, some of those turnovers are hard to watch. Dude is a scoring assassin, though. Nice job by Baker and Welsh stepping up in the clutch.

Anyone notice that Georgetown, NC State is the same schedule that 1999 Princeton faced in the NIT?

A couple of things that stood out to me:
— Weisner really set the tone for us with his energy and effort on the glass. Really happy to see him get a moment like that.
— This was a pretty good example of why, even though he drives Amaker crazy with his mental mistakes, we need Baker to turn into a reliable contributor. His length, athleticism, and shooting for his size can all be big difference-makers for us. We certainly could have used them against Yale. Hope we see a lot more of him on Sunday.
— Kirkwood is growing up before our eyes. His decision-making has improved by leaps and bounds since the start of the year. He's no longer forcing drives that aren't there, which was the primary way he got himself into trouble back then. He only had two turnovers last night despite taking on a big chunk of the ball-handling duties (Gtown's denial on Aiken was so aggressive that we had to have someone else initiate the offense).
— And the biggest point of all: we looked pretty good with Kirkwood as the point guard. He still needs to work on his handle — he dribbles too high at times — but he's more of a natural passer than Bryce is. The play of the night for me was probably his touch pass to Welsh in the first half. Gorgeous stuff. The problem with playing Bryce off the ball is that we'd usually be at a defensive disadvantage with two smaller guys on the court, but Kirkwood at the point would solve that issue. Might be something to think about for next year...
