Of the possible motivations to take GW:
1. Salary
2. Recruit with scholarships to offer
3. ??
Does he have any ties to the DC area?

multiple bids, but I think he can get a better job IF he wants to
leave Yale. He has built some thing special with you guys.

I spent three years post-graduate education at GW, played hoops in Smith Center.
The campus is nothing special, but I loved being at Foggy Bottom--all of DC is available: restaurants, museums, Kennedy Center, two Shakespeare theaters.
Still would prefer a true Ivy League campus.

I think jj would theoretically leave for the right situation and more guaranteed money.
But bar is pretty high I think given comfort at yale. He is also like the only af am head coach I think as of late but that cld have changed
But looking at comments from 3 yrs ago. No yale can’t pay more than harvard as amaker is juiced by an association that is better funded -guys like Steve baller etc
our association isn’t very big. so it’s abt what the school pays and he is compensated well for iL but not compared to amaker or any revenue league.
so that is why u can never say never

New rumor that James is involved in the search for a new coach at USD of the West Coast Conference. Seems like an odd one to me, given his east coast roots. Maybe angling for leverage in contract re-negotiations?

HoopDirt has a low reliability factor. I wouldn't put much stock into what appears there. Doesn't mean it's not true, but it's just as likely to be true as it is false in my experience.

Thanks for the heads up!
A reporter from the San Diego Union-Tribune just tweeted - https://twitter.com/sdutzeigler/status/15 060405766... - that James Jones' name has come up in conversations, so maybe this story does have legs.

Jeff Goodman: https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops
And Jon Rothstein: https://twitter.com/JonRothstein
are much more reliable sources.
Goodman retweeted Ziegler's report about Jones being involved as USD so likely true.

San Diego is a thoroughly lovely place. I've never seriously considered relocating, but if I did, SD would be at the top of the list.

Absolutely stunning campus, up on a hill overlooking the ocean and the SD area. Great facilities and good academic school. Very different life than in New Haven for sure.

great league which got 3 bids this year. Beating Gonzaga,
St. Mary"s, BYU, USF, Santa Clara would be a challenge,
but maybe that appeals to his competitive streak.
he has commented that people told him Yaale would never compete
with Princeton/Penn.

Yes, the top half of that conference is about as good as a top half of any conference in the country.
Was surprised Saint Mary's lost in the second round, but then again they ran into a UCLA team that might well be headed back to the Final Four. That should not have been a second round matchup.

Yale would be tough to leave. But not New Haven. Especially for San Diego.

The San Diego AD is on record as saying he would have his hire by the Final Four.....so we have 2 days to wait.

I was just in New Haven this past weekend. Visiting daughter in med school. It's surprisingly nice---much nicer than when I went there to call games for Penn in the '70s. Of course, it's not San Diego.....

Rothstein reporting that Coach Jones just reupped at Yale through the 30-31 season. Obviously, this doesn't mean he stays the whole time, but it probably puts paid to the idea that he leaves for another mid-major, if for no other reason than that his buyout would probably be quite high.

It’s not bad at all. Am in the area from time to time. Mandy Patinkin was doing a show at the Shubert Theater right before COVID hit so I made sure to take Mrs. Nation, who loves him. Suffice it to say she enjoyed it more than Air Supply.
There’s also an excellent vegetarian place that is a New Haven institution, Claire’s Cornicopia, maybe a block or so away from there. Also happens to be kosher but most of its clientele probably aren’t even aware of that fact.
