American is starting three seniors, though there's only one who at first glance seems like she might have a chance against Parker. Let's see how they do from 3, however. Short delay here while they fix the net by the home bench. The team seems not too traumatized by the Princeton loss, so that's good at least.

9-2 Penn at the first media TO. Don't think American has played a defense like ours this year ; don't think they've gotten a shot off before 7 on the shot clock yet, and there's been about 3 or four blocks already. Give American credit, though; their band, cheerleaders, and Eagle are all here, and their fans have come in pretty good numbers, too.

16-5 us after 1. One thing I just love about both of our programs the last few years is how much more athletic we look. American took a shot which bounced off the rim; their center was in perfect position for the board, but Parker went straight up, stuck her arm over the other player's head, and snatched it away, without touching her whatsoever. In general, we look a lot more talented than this team so far. Not real efficient on offense so far, though, and would still like to get more 3's.

40-17 at half. American was 16-2 and co-first place in the Patriot this year; if this is their second best team, I think that tells us something about how much better the Ivies have gotten recently. Grasela with a freaking amazing drive and then baseline pass halfway across the court to Russell for a wide-open trey. Make that 38-17 at half; on our last possession, the shot clock was only about 0.7 ahead of the main clock, and Jones made a layup which beat the main clock but not the shot clock, so they had to pull both teams back out of the locker room and give American a 3/4 court heave which missed. First time I've ever seen that in the first half.

Stabilized things, with Parker just making a beautiful little move in the post to score. 47-29 at the 3rd Q media TO.

57-40 Penn with 4:48 to go. American has been going for the very aggressive halfcourt trap, which has been causing us some problems, and we've gone cold from outside. Fortunately, however, American has been settling for rushed mid-range shots, so they haven't made much progress.

62-45 with 2:05 to go. Both teams looking ragged here; Phoebe made a lackadaisical pass that was easily picked off, but American then badly botched the resulting 3-on-1.

And in the other half of the bracket, Harvard defeats Drexel 69-56 in Cambridge. Harvard advances to play Georgetown.

Georgetown is RPI #70
Providence is RPI #121
Penn is RPI #57
Harvard is RPI #90.

These rankings do not include tonight's results.

AU's dance team is excellent and a real asset to the basketball program.

Not of that game.

But there's several on YouTube if you care to see it. Search for "AU/American University Dance Team"
