If you're Mike Martin, would you let him?
Realize that Jason Massey rejoined the team after taking a year off, but I think it'd be tough to let someone rejoin a team after they made such a big deal of their departure - wrote a note, retweeted VT fans pleading for him to choose their school, made his decision process highly public.
Jon Rothstein tweeted that Cambridge was taking a visit to Nevada, which, in an odd twist of fate or something of that nature, would make him the second transfer of the Mike Martin era to join the Wolfpack if he were to take that path.

while in general, i'm not a big proponent of "never except the counter offer", if Dez wanted to come back and Martin turned his nose at it... well, enjoy the unemployment line in a year or two, Mike.
The players have no rights, work for free at Ivy League institutions and a coach is going to turn his nose up at an all-Ivy caliber player in good academic standing who had the temerity to look around and see if he could go to school for free at good academic schools (VT maybe not on the other two's level unless he was doing engineering?) that play at a higher level?

In my experience, many coaches will let the team to decide on whether or not to take a player back.

Cambridge is going to Nevada.
Forced to live in Reno. A conference at best marginally better than the Ivies last year. And a degree from a lesser institution.
Tell me again what he’s gaining here?

I think Cambridge probably thought he would have more options than he currently has. Tough to find a taker for a high usage guy with below average production numbers.

Didn't a Penn decommit from about 10 years ago wind up at Nevada? Some big whose name is escaping me now. Was also the landing spot for Yanni Hufnagel after his crash and burn at Cal.
Not an awful spot to land basetball-wise, Chip's valid points notwithstanding. And probably not what Cambridge was hoping for, but that's the breaks.

(Raftery voice). "Panzer...WITH THE ANZER!"
Yeah, didn't quite work out.
Hufnagel, it turns out, is a fairly terrible human being and seems at home in the snake oil business.
