The Bison have played many of these B10 opponents tough, even though the record doesn't look great. Most of the time, the Bison performed well. I wonder how many times we beat the spread?
More telling, PSU record in the B10 is 148-320 (.316). Bucknell in the PL is 294-122 (.707). Looking at RS titles and Tournament wins the results are equally superior. That's competitive

What is embarrassing is that PSU has BIG 10 Facilities, Bigtime exposure and a vibrant and historic campus/school to recruit only 3 hours from Philadelphia yet never fails to be at the bottom of the league...If Bucknell had a nicer locker room and a practice facility and chartered more than 2 planes every year the level of recruits they would get would skyrocket

Is St Bonaventure coming to our place? I seem to recall someone saying last year's game in Olean was not a guarantee game.

Penn State has the better ability to recruit blue chip players.

Bucknell is a better, more competitive and better respected program in their league than PSU is in theirs. No question about that. Head to head, PSU would probably defeat Bucknell 7/10 times most years. Just a reality of the level of players that go to a Big10 program compared to a Patriot League program. That said, I love cheering for Bucknell over Penn State (even though I’d like to see PSU build a higher level Big10 program...just not sure its going to happen with Chambers or any coach, to be honest.)

Haven't been able to get an answer on this one, brw. Both the Bucknell and Bona releases last year were silent as to any return game. I speculated that one was likely because I didn't think Bona could offer a big enough guarantee for the Bison, particularly given the lack of home games on last season's OOC.
I still think there's a possibility of a return, though perhaps not this coming season.

When they schedule us, the most important OOC game to me is always Penn State. I hope we crush them!

I'd love to see that, but it will be a very tall task. PSU has quietly been a lot better than a lot of people think the past two years. Haven't quite gotten over the hump in B10 play - but they have ranked 19th and 43rd in the nation the last two years (KenPom). And they return most of last year's team, including a 1st team All-Big 10 PF. Lunardi projected them as a 10 seed for next year's tournament in his very early first pass at the 2020 tourney.

with both Bucknell and Yale looking like nit tip off "visitors" we may see them on the schedule.
Western Michigan is likely another "visitor team" in the nit, apparently still looking for a fourth, although the nit tourney has operated with different numbers of visiting teams in recent years. we could still get four exempt tourney games with only three visitors as Bucknell,Yale and Western Mich could each host one and travel to the other visiting team.

my understanding is that last year was a guarantee game. that does not preclude possibility of an SBU game this year as it could have been set up as a guarantee plus a home and home (like our deal with Vermont - how we got a '2 for 1' with them), but to be clear i have not heard anything beyond last year was a guarantee game.

The Bison will be looking to avenge last year's aggravating, 2-point home-opening loss on a Stag layup with 3 seconds to go.
I'll be curious to see where the game is played. Last year, Fairfield did a mix of games at sterile, modern, 10,000-seat Webster Bank Arena (booooo) and cozy, energized 2,479-seat Alumni Hall (yaaaayy).
Here's a fine opinion piece from the Fairfield student newspaper making the case for making Alumni Hall the exclusive home.

A couple of issues with Fairfield:
1. They signed a long-term deal with Webster Bank Arena, where they normally draw less than 1000 fans in an arena that has a basketball capacity of over 10,000. It was a really dumb decision and has hurt their program, but I believe they have to pay WBA every time they opt to move a game on campus. Not sure when the contract runs out.
2. Alumni Hall occasionally has energy - but that is at least partially because they only play a couple of games a year at that site. I have been at games in that venue where it was as energized as Cotterell Court or Christl Arena in a normal year. (OR Stabler when there aren't Bucknell or Lafayette fans occupying half the seats.)
3. There are plans on the table to blow up Alumni Hall and put in a new arena. Not sure if plans have been approved yet and if the money has all been raised. One issue for Fairfield is that their campus is very small and there is almost no room to build a new arena without first demolishing Alumni Hall.

How long before the season starts in Oct.
If they choose to start practice on the earliest possible date, it will actually be September 24th. Earliest date is six weeks prior to the first game. BUT a team can only practice 30 times in those 42 days, i.e. 5 days a week. Some teams have opted to start a few days later and have some weeks with six days of practice, but most will start on the earliest date. Bucknell did last year.
By the way, the earliest possible date for a team's first game is November 5th - as determined by the calendar. The start date is determined by when the Tuesday prior to the second Friday in November falls. When the second Friday is on the 8th, then the season starts on the 5th - as it does this year. If the second Friday was as late as the 14th, then the start date would be November 11th.

Seattle looks like the fourth team for the nit, so we likely play two of Yale, Western Michigan and Seattle.

Seattle could be an interesting team this year. They return all five starters, and all five are in either their fourth or fifth years. One of them is Delante Jones, a native of Northern Virginia who inexplicably transferred there from American. He was PL ROY in 2016 but then regressed his second year.
