Also a difficult schedule academically. The first 3 Wednesdays of the spring semester are on the road. Given not much is accomplished in the first class, and no classes are scheduled on MLK Day, the team misses half of its first 6 M-W-F classes.

2019-2020 Schedule 08-15-19 02:51 PM - Post#286972
In response to Bison137
American away game is on Wednesday January 15th.
It is apparent from looking at the AU schedule that return games for the different teams will not mirror each other at all.

A few comments:
1. Terrible to have to bus to Colgate for a Monday game after playing Lehigh Saturday.
2. Terrible to have to bus to Holy Cross for a Monday game after playing American on Saturday.
3. For the first time, the league does not have equality in the home-and-homes, either both midweek or both weekend. For example, Holy Cross - as has always been the case - plays Bucknell on a weekend. But this year - for the first time - the Bison have to travel to Worcester for a midweek game. It's the same situation (in reverse) with Lafayette, although its proximity means its not a big deal.
4. As pointed out above, Bison get three home games when school is not in session - but only one road game, meaning more missed class time etc.

Obviously the powers-that-be at Bucknell have no say in scheduling or are not good advocates for their position.

I can't imagine a worse schedule for travel. Five weekday road games at American, Colgate, Army, Navy, HC. All are long road trips. No weekday away games at Lehigh, Lafayette, or Loyola. So much for prioritizing academics.

2019-2020 Schedule 09-26-19 07:48 PM - Post#288031
In response to Bison137
Bucknell has now added game times to the schedule and also some more TV info. They confirmed the obvious, i.e. that the three Monday PL games are on CBS. Only one home TV game, as the Bison are on the road when the two flex games occur at the end of the year. Typical of the mindless fools who run the PL to assure that the TV games are mostly played with a background of nothing but empty seats.
The regional TV games on WQMY-TV will include the Nov. 10 game against Vermont, the Jan. 18 game against Lehigh, and the Feb. 1 game against Boston U.
AS for game times, the Sunday game vs Vermont and the Saturday game vs Princeton will start at 2 PM. The Saturday game with Albany will be a rare 7 PM start. There are two Saturday league games (Lehigh and Loyola) that start at 7 PM as well. One good change imo is that there are no home games with noon starts. All the afternoon starts are at 2 PM. Last year iirc there were three noon starts for league games.
Bison Basketball Slated for CBS Sports Network and WQMY TV

I'd wondered if the La Salle game at the Palestra might be part of a doubleheader, but have seen no indication of that. Still not sure why it's being played there. Maybe it's the Explorers' way of appealing to fans who may not be enthused about going to the La Salle campus?

Maybe. Or perhaps it was Bucknell's condition to agree to play them without getting a return game. Or to give them a two-for-one or whatever.

2019-2020 Schedule 09-27-19 05:16 PM - Post#288063
In response to Bison137
One new fact about the Bison schedule. The opener at Fairfield will be played in Bridgeport's Webster Bank Arena. That has been their main home for years - but not this year. In 2019-20, Fairfield will be playing the majority of their home games on campus in the small, antiquated Alumni Hall - but their game with the Bison will be one of five still played in Bridgeport.
The Bridgeport Arena has a capacity of about 10,000, and there will be about 500 fans in attendance. Exactly zero students in the building other than players and cheerleaders. In contrast, if it were played in Alumni Hall as their opener, they could expect 2000 with a large student turnout.

What a drag that we're among the chosen few in the big, empty venue.

Yes, not a great environment - although at least there is no home court advantage. I recall seeing one of the better Bison comeback wins ever in that arena in December 2014 - when the Bison came from 12 points back in the final 10 minutes to force OT. They then scored a record 25 points in the 5-minute OT to win it. Kaspar, after not scoring in the first 40 minutes, went 2-2 on threes and 2-2 from the line in OT. In total, the team was 5-6 from the floor and 13-14 on FT's in OT.
Official attendance was 1216. Actual attendance was no more than 500, with 1/3 being Bison fans.

Then again, sometimes, a la Cotterel Court over the years, an empty home court provides a "dead gym advantage" where teams play flat for lack of energy in the building.
