I didn't see these videos back in the day. Looks like we could use this guy.

I guess this is a belated April Fool's Day post.

It's not often that you see hilite reels that make the 'star' look slow, especially with high school competition.

But perhaps that is offset by by the apparent lack of lift.

I think that it proves that Morris played HS ball. Lots of kids do but many fewer are true Division I prospects. Jerome's (and subsequently Steve's) assessment was that Morris was not. At least he played the sport he was supposed to have played unlike many of those caught in the federal sting operation.

The person I feel a little sorry for is Ira Bowman who looked like he had found himself a good opportunity at Auburn but missed out on a trip to the Final Four after Jerome's testimony. Has there been any further word on what Ira was alleged to have done?

I know the question is in jest, but the answer is probably not many.

That first link is to the Sarachek tournament held every year at the Yeshiva University (NY) campus. It attracts many Jewish high schools from around the country and the best basketball players who attend Jewish day schools. At the top levels of that tourney, you end up with teams that do have 3 or more guys at 6 feet+ (and even some that approach 6'5" or taller). A couple of players from those schools over the years have (mostly) sat on the bench for Ivy teams; most players would not even bother to try out since their standard of Sabbath observance would preclude them from participating.

At 5'10, Morris looks like one of the biggest guys in the game.

I'll give him this. He's better than I am.

I also feel bad for Ira... maybe. It's one thing to accept the bribe. It's another thing to not report your boss. The maybe to me depends on what money he took. If it was insubstantial - enough for a night out or something along those lines, I won't hold it against him. If he's a full member of Jerome's scheme, then I won't be too sympathetic.

The depressing part of this is that Ira may be screwed in his career as an NCAA assistant coach, while Jerome's punishment seems pretty minimal at this point and his career seems intact. Did Jerome need to finger Ira?

When you agree to cooperate, you must truthfully answer all questions or they not only throw the book at you for what you have already admitted, but also for violating your cooperation agreement. If he was asked about anyone else who knew or accepted money, he had to answer truthfully
