The annual Giving Challenge begins at noon tomorrow and runs for 24 hours. Given the limited support that athletics gets from the administration, it's important to see as many donations as possible - and distributed among as many teams as possible. When athletics receives widespread support, it sends a message to the University. And athletics does get major alum support - more than at most PL schools. Even a small gift is important since support is measured at least partially by the number of gifts.

Thanks for the encouragement. I chipped in. Men's basketball surprisingly tied for 10th place.

FWIW, I found it much easier using PayPal last year than this setup they have this year. I kept getting to the end and my total would be wrong. Took about 4 tries to get it right. Almost gave up, but finally got it done.

Yes it was difficult. I wanted to do $10 per program and that was not allowed, and it took about 5 tries before I gave up and gave larger amounts to fewer sports. Too bad, because they all deserved it

The final tally: $517,528 from 2134 donors. Average of just under $250 per donor.
For comparison, here are a couple of other PL schools' donations from similar, albeit longer, athletic campaigns in 2019:
- Holy Cross (two days) $237,094 from 2000+ alumni. (Was tied into their Winter Homecoming)
- Lehigh (seven days): $539,967 from 1,354 donations
- Colgate (seven days): $679,498 from 2113 donors.
- Lafayette (seven days, associated with general fund-raising for other things as well): $103,000 from 1370 donors.
Boston U: $1.36 million from 3700+ donors. For perspective, Boston U has almost 17,000 undergraduates and a total enrollment of about 32,500.
