Great jump. Amazing for her second career meet - and in what is a secondary sport for her. Her jump was 1/4" higher than the winning jump in last year's PL championships.

One thing to note is that this is the record for the OUTDOOR high jump. Amy Mantush cleared 5-8 indoors.

This is also the best jump in the Patriot League this year, indoors or outdoors.

Which begs the question ... how many basketball recruits hold school records in other sports at Bucknell? I can confirm three. There may be more.

those were the only two i knew without cheating. i suspected Mike Anders (baseball, career wins) as a candidate and in confirming stumbled on Ted Aceto who i had completely forgotten also played baseball (career batting and on-base percentage). Aceto played three years of baseball as well as four years of hoops. Anders dropped basketball after one (iirc) season to focus on baseball.

Bill Gravely, indoor and outdoor triple jump record holder also played basketball. t&f his claim to fame, so don't know if he was recruited for hoops, but he did get playing time.

Not positive but I believe he was recruited for hoops by Valvano. Was a good rebounder.

Other track records held by multi-sport athletes:

- Doug Nauman, who holds the pre-1986 javelin record, was also a very good football player for a very good Bison team.
- Andrew Powell, who holds the decathlon and heptathlon records by a wide margin, was also an All-PL soccer player 7+ years ago.
- Will Carter, who was an All-PL football player a few years ago, held the indoor 200M record until Billy Melchionni broke it recently. Carter holds the career football record for receptions.

Prior to 1980, many of the top Bison athletes competed in more than one sport. It was common, for example, for the baseball team to have many players who also played football, basketball, or soccer. Two examples:

- Randy Ruger, who was a very good football safety, still holds the Bison records for batting average in a season (.494), slugging pct in a season (.883) and on-base pct (.554).

- Gene Luccarelli, who was a very good baseball center fielder in 1969-71, still holds the career record in football for interceptions and return yardage.

One other multi-sport name is Ed Farver, who not only was a multi-year starter at PG in the late 60's, but also made 1st team college All-America as a lax midfielder.

All good stuff. The 3 I had in mind were McLean, O'Brien and Aceto.

Bill Gravely is a good catch. He was a Valvano recruit out of Lower Merion HS.

I absolutely forgot Barbara Castens and her classmate Karin Wegener. Both were 3 sport standouts who starred in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse in the '70s. B/w the two of them, they were the FH recordbook when they graduated.

The other women I'm not sure of are Lynne Walshaw and Stacey Spitko. Both graduated with softball records that are not included in the team's recordbook. Walshaw's HOF bio referenced she still had the slugging pct career mark when she was inducted. I can't find that record today.
