Joshua Hemmings, 6'9" SF, from Toronto and attends The Lawrenceville School.

Verbal Commits notes that he had offers from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Mississippi, Georgia Tech, UNLV, Cincinnati, Tulane, and St. Louis.

https://247sports.com/Article/Harvard-Josh- Hemming...

- Hemmings told 247Sports he picked Tommy Amaker’s program over Princeton, Oregon, Ole Miss and Virginia. Hemmings grew familiar with Harvard's program via unofficial visits. He took trips to their campus three different times, including two weeks ago. -

- On the court, Hemmings is regarded as a three-star prospect and ranks No. 230 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Hemmings is ranked No. 168 in the Top247.

“I feel like my versatility is an asset on the court,” he said. “Being able to rebound like a big, push the ball up the court like a guard, shoot and also facilitate. I feel like I can play position-less basketball and be unselfish. I feel like I can mold well with the talent that Harvard has and make the team better.” -

Based on who he picked us over, it sounds like he might be better than that 230 ranking. How big a get is this for us? And what's the scouting report on him?

If I had to pick a player to compare him to, I might say a shorter, but stronger version of Robert Baker. Similar type of offensive perimeter profile (good shooter), but gives you more of a big look on defense and will rebound well from the wing spot (but likely plays as an Ivy 4). With Sakota, Ledlum and Kirkwood, in a few years, Harvard could trot out a four guard lineup that is all 6’5 to 6’9.

Senior year will be important to monitor. Kinda lost a high school year at Oak Hill, so want to see how he continues to develop.

I don’t know how serious *all* of those Power 5 offers were, but he could have easily gone that direction if he had wanted.

An article at KUSports.com mentioned that Jabri Abur-Rahim will announce his decision on Wednesday. It mentioned that his choices are between Virginia and Michigan, but Villanova, Georgia and Harvard all remain in the hunt.

http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/ku-recruiting -sco...

Verbal Commits has him listed as a 4-star PF with a huge number of offers from high major schools. Harvard, however, is not on that list.

He just tweeted that the announcement is going to be at 7pm.

Doesn't seem auspicious that he's making his decision so close after he visited UVA, but we'll see soon.

A couple of UVA writers are saying they're hear he's picking them. Would make sense given the timing of the decision.

Harvard picked up its 2nd commitment for 2020, Sam Silverstein of Northfield Mount Hermon.

Silverstein is a 6' 5" SF from Winnetka, Illinois. Prior to joining NMHS, he graduated from New Triers High School in Winnetka, where he was teammates with Ciaran Brayboy. This is the same high school where the Boehm family (Dartmouth's Connor and Harvard's Jeannie) attended.

Evan Nelson has apparently trimmed his list to three schools - Harvard, Rice and UC Santa Barbara. He is a 6' 2" PG who has 19 total offers, including Davidson, Nevada and New Mexico.

Busting Brackets looks at the three schools. That site has him listed as a 3 star, but Verbal Commits has him listed as a 2 star.

http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/evan-nelson

https://bustingbrackets.com/2019/08/19/mid-major- b...

- Nelson had an excellent season at Salpointe Catholic this past season. The Tucson (Ariz.) product showed tremendous improvement in his shooting and ball-handling in his junior campaign compared to his sophomore year. He averaged 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.2 turnovers as well as 2.5 steals a game last season. Nelson also shot 54% from the field, 46% from beyond the arc (70-152) and 83% from the charity stripe.

Nelson is rated as a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals. He is ranked 197th in his class by 247Sports and 280th by 247Sports Composite. -

- Examing the three finalists
Harvard: The Crimson were the last team to offer Nelson. Obviously, Harvard has a huge academic reputation and the Crimson have been really strong on the court under head coach Tommy Amaker. Amaker is 230-131 overall and 116-52 in Ivy League action over 12 seasons at the Cambridge (Mass.) school. The Crimson has captured a share of the Ivy League in each of the past two seasons and has claimed seven regular-season titles overall under Amaker. They have also participated in a postseason tournament eight times, which includes four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Harvard will have two other point guards on its roster next season with sophomore Spencer Freedman and freshman Luka Sakota. Freedman saw action in 16 games last year, averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 assists although he shot just 31% from the field and 33% from the 3-point line. However, the Crimson will need to replace 6-0 guard Bryce Aiken, who averaged 22.2 points in 18 contests in 2018-19, next year. -

- Prediction: I believe that Nelson could pick any of the three schools, so it is basically a toss-up. But if I were to order them, I would say Harvard is No. 1 followed by UCSB and then Rice. -

The women's team picked up a 2020 commitment from Harmoni Turner, a 5-star PG and #41 on the ESPN Top-100.

Turner averaged 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals per game last year. She tore her ACL this summer, and will miss her senior season. She is expected back for her first year at Harvard.
