New guy cleaning house. Some very popular staffers (among the athletes) have been shown the door (Women's volleyball Coach not one of them)

Well, this is just strength and conditioning, not team coaches. And of course, if they hire a new guy, he has the right to choose his staff.

I was making an observation that the popular strength Coaches were let go, some still in season, and the unpopular Woman's VB coach, is retained. The athletes view's don't matter.

I think the choice of new guys is average at best. He is going to find his own team, but it will be hard to replace the quality of some of the staff he fired.

I don't deny that what you say may be correct. But if the new boss doesn't see eye to eye with the staff he inherited and they are likely to be a rear guard against him, he is doing the right thing for everyone. Apparently, the other strength coaches already had their resumes out on the street according to the article. You don't force a coach to take the existing assistants. (You also don't promote a 3rd assistant to the top spot and expect those passed over to stay).

While I would have no idea if the firing of Steele was appropriate, it is understandable if the new person would want to bring in his own group. With the upcoming conference, this may have been the best time to make the change - even if it is in the post-season for several sports.

Irregardless of whether Dr. Calhoun's decisions are ultimately right or wrong, her department sure has looked bad over the last 15 months.

- Softball team has serious problems with coach and Athletic Department
- Volleyball team has serious problems with the coach and Athletic Department
- Naming rights to the Palestra court
- Band and Cheerleaders have problem with institutional and/or financial support from Athletics
- Jerome Allen investigation results
- Firing of Strength and Conditioning Coach Steele

I guess when a department wants to communicate only when they feel like it, they are going to look bad.

i'm not sure what the bad look is - they disagree the volleyball coach should be fired. it seems pretty binary - the students (a fair amount but not all) want him fired and will not be satisfied with anything else. The administration doesn't wish to fire a person after one year for nothing that rises to the level of a fireable offense. so what now?

Irregardless is not a word. I believe you mean regardless.

not to quibble over such trivialities, but:
Irregardless was popularized in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its increasingly widespread spoken use called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.
