"Although some players will struggle with the longer distance, it will likely decrease the reliance on the three throughout the country. Perhaps more importantly, it should open up the court and create more space the paint for drives and low-post play."

Having the even longer distance in the NBA has not had this effect. All it will do is encourage more players to work on their longer shot. Unfortunately, the effect of the 3 point shot, especially in the age of analytics, is cause the mid-range game to disappear because of its inefficiency. And if teams think the extra foot or so will open up the game, I think it will do the opposite. Players will cheat to the double inside believing the 3 is a harder shot. We'll see more open 3s until it is proven that players hit it at a percentage that they can't double anymore.

Yea, I kind of agree with P38, a longer 3pt line may tighten up the college game. The problem in college is most players don't have the time (classes and limits on workouts)to put up enough shots to be proficient from 3 consistently. 3pt shooting is a learned skill through reps.

The pro guys can put up 500+ makes a day from 3 (Kobe used to make 1,000 shots a day before 7am) so the difference is dramatic in terms of availability and time.

Now if only Ben Simmons would listen to you on how to become a proficient outside shooter.

Maybe coaches will go back to what Pitino coached at Kentucky when he was there--working on a jumper where you started behind the line but leapt forward prior to release.

Here is my point: when we play OOC games we usually go up against bigger and more athletic front courts than we see in league. We try to neutralize those teams with superior three point shooting. That strategy will probably be more difficult to implement.

I didn't at first understand your point, but now do. Interesting question. We'll have to see how it plays out. Seemed this last year that players such as Stefanini and Aiken could hit jumpers from however far away

Aiken broke my heart with his three point dagger off Tape. Had to be from close to 30 feet.
