Couple of updates on how some Princeton players have been doing this summer…

Incoming freshmen Tosan Evbuomwan and Jacob O'Connell both participated in the FIBA U18 European Championships a couple of weeks ago.

Tosan played for Great Britain in the A Division on a GB team that finished 8th, falling to Slovenia in the quarterfinals. Tosan started and played 28 minutes a game, averaging 10.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1 steal per game while shooting 41% from the field (3/14 from 3, 8/18 from FT) for a team that upset Montenegro in the round of 16.

Jacob played in the B Division for Slovakia on a team that went 0-5 in the tournament. He played 23 minutes a game, averaging 6.3 points, 6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 42% from the field (1/8 from 3, 7/15 from FT).

Additionally, Jaelin Llewellyn has participated and stood out at both the CP3 Elite College Guards camp, and at Pro City NYC, a pro-am league at Columbia featuring Amir Bell, as well as quite a few NBA players. Some highlights are available at the Overtime Canada instagram page here https://www.instagram.com/p/B0hAk6ajToc/

That video is great. I don't remember seeing Llewellyn even try pull-up jumpers or step-back threes last year, but he was making them in the ProCity NYC summer league. He looked more explosive going to the basket too.

Nice stats from the kids. Impressive performance by Jaelin for sure. Hope we get a full season from him. If he can stay on the floor we'll have a great shot at the first division.

Jaelin obviously has to dramatically improve his FG% this year and his 3 pt shooting. He is a rare IL player who has the ability to create his own shots at any given moment, similar to Aiken. If he hits some outside shots, his ability getting to the basket becomes easier plus he will be able to dish off to Arirguzoh.

Richmond and Schweigger will also be major factors but Jaelin's play is essential. I think that he will dramatically improve this year but time will tell.

Not unique to Jaelin, but this is where the new longer 3 point line could have an impact. Can’t see players who struggled from the shorter distance last season making pronounced improvement from 1.5ft further out.

I think Desrosiers will likely be a starter, and probably Max Johns or Ethan Wright for the 5th spot. Among the freshmen, I think Keeshawn Kellman and Ryan Langborg could see playing time early

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I recall that Ethan Wright shot the ball quite well at times.

I agree that Jerome will be a starter based on rebounding and 3 pt sk=hooting skills -- good complementary skills with Jaelin, Richmond and Schweigger. His 3 pt shooting % declined from his freshmen year but he has a pure shooting stroke and he has extended range.

As to the two guard, it probably will be shared by Wright, Johns and Lanborg. Johns will be the defender and Wright the offensive threat. Wright can shoot the 3 although Lanborg might be the wild card.

Morales, Much and Gladson will probably be role players. There might be one other player, freshmen or on last year's roster that could surprise.

Jaelin and Richmond will be heavily relied on.

Llewellyn started improving over the last part of last season. It looks like that may have continued over the summer, at least as far as shooting is concerned. What’s hard to test in a summer league is whether his weakness last year—making good decisions and/or plays against alert help defense—has also continued to improve. I’m optimistic.

Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't compare Jaelin to Aiken right now, or at any point in Aiken's career. I realize you were talking just about shot making, but even that, Aiken is, and has always been, elite. Jaelin had an average freshman campaign, certainly compared to Aiken's freshman year:

Jaelin: 10.1 ppg, 38% 2pt, 25% 3pt, 57% FT, eFG 38% 82 oRat

Aiken: 14.5ppg, 46% 2pt, 36% 3pt, 88% FT, eFG 50.5%, oRat 106

Aiken was a head case as a freshman. Harvard had an upperclassman who had to settle him down. I’ll take Jalin for the long term. He had a fine freshman year in the midst of a lot of upheaval. He’ll be every bit as good as Aiken in the next few years.

Princeton should be very good in football this year. But the entire league is much stronger, other than Cornell.

Yes, I left out Brown as an also-ran. Princeton was by far the best team last year, but loses most of its offense. Harvard and Yale were improving. Dartmouth may be at the top in predictions (I did not look at any of the predictions yet--still August and Ivies start late), but the 6 teams that had 3 or more wins last year all may compete this year.

It's really weird to see that Penn-Princeton finale 11/23 at Franklin Field. Hope it matters.

FYI -
https://ivyleague.com/news/2019/8/8/yale-na med-lea...

1. Yale (9 1st place votes) 119 points
2. Dartmouth (2) 111 points
3. Princeton (4) 107 points
4. Harvard (1) 93 points
5. Penn (0) 67 points
6. Columbia (1) 61 points
7. Cornell (0) 29 points
8. Brown (0) 24 points

Brown has a new coach (and possibly QB - his nephew who transferred from BC and can play immediately). They should have improvement from last year, but probably not be in the mix for the title.

Cornell has played well, at times, but has trouble with consistency. They should also be out of the mix, but last year they were in the hunt late.

Columbia did really well dealing with a lot of injuries last year. With a healthier team, they could surprise. Unfortunately for Penn, the game is in NYC this October.

It could be another six or seven team race, but Dartmouth and Yale seem to be a bit stronger than Princeton and Harvard.

Should be another good year in an ever-improving IL.

The media day was done at the ESPN studios last Thursday and can be viewed on ESPN+. It was a rather lengthy event, with a state of the league announcement from Robin Harris, details of ESPN's 150th season events, interviews with each of the coaches/players and questions from the media.

Hopefully, something similar can be done when its time for basketball season.
