Here is the predicted finish for the PL from Blue Ribbbon, which is the best and most comprehensive college basketball publication by far:
1 Colgate
2 Bucknell
3 American
4 Boston U
5 Lehigh
6 Loyola
7 Navy
8 Army
9 Holy Cross
10 Lafayette
All-PL: Ivanauskas, Burns (CU), Rayman, Kostecka (CU) (LOY), and Nelson (AU)
ROY: Santi Aldama, Loyola's 6-11 Spanish center
- - - - -
Blue Ribbon is a very good source of info, although I was disappointed with a few errors and omissions in the PL section, written by HoopTime.
I think his rankings generally make sense, although I think he overrates Navy and Holy Cross, while underrating Army and Lafayette.

Athlon: (not well researched at all)
1 Colgate
2 Bucknell
3 American
4 Lehigh
5 Army
6 Lafayette
7 Loyola
8 Boston U
9 Navy
10 Holy Cross
Same 1st and 2nd teams as Lindy's, except Athlon has Army's Matt Wilson on the 2nd team ahead of Bruce Moore. If the Bison do indeed finish 2nd in the league, it's hard to believe they won't have someone make the 2nd team. At this point, however, it's not clear who it would be. I think four have a chance to make 3rd team or better (although clearly not all of them will): Moore, Toomer, Sotos, Meeks.
As for Athlon's predicted finish, I think it is absurd to have Boston U at the #8 spot. I wish I could get a bet down with the author of the piece. Also Loyola should do better than 7th imo.

I think that we all agree that Colgate is the team to beat. It just remains to be seen how they will handle the pressure of trying to repeat in combination with any other adversity that they might face: injuries, poor grades, the unexpected scandal, etc. You never know what will happen with a bunch of 18-22 year olds.
GO BISON!

Average finish of the three above predictions:
1.0 Colgate
2.0 Bucknell
3.0 American
4.7 Lehigh
5.3 Boston
6.3 Army
6.7 Loyola
8.0 Lafayette
8.7 Navy
9.3 Holy Cross
I have a feeling that Loyola didn't get full credit for the possible contributions of its freshman class. And Boston U may not have received full credit for the value of Walter Whyte, who should be healthy after missing all of last year. Hopefully that will be offset by Joe Jones' coaching.

I think Andrew Funk has a shot at a 2nd or 3rd team spot. He may be our 2nd or 3rd (or 1st) scoring option if he's shooting well.

I still contend Toomer is going to BLOW UP this year. In many ways this could be his team. I think he has that kind of talent.

Husky, I hope that you are right. Toomer seems to have the talent to do so. My only concern is fouls. Both he and Moore seem to get into foul trouble a lot. If both of them can stay on the floor, the sky is the limit.

That's a good observation. Moore last year averaged 5.0 fouls per 40 minutes, while Toomer averaged 5.6 per 40 (down from 6.6 the previous season). One thing to keep in mind, however, is that those two almost always drew the toughest defensive assignments. Bruce usually guarded the best forward on the floor, while Avi usually was assigned to the toughest guard. Also both were versatile on defense, with Bruce taking on centers, PF's, and also quick SF's, while Avi might guard a 6-7 SF or a 5-11 PG.
BTW, the other spot where fouls may be an issue is at center. Newman last year averaged 7.6 fouls per 40 minutes. That very high foul rate didn't matter much when he was a backup - but it will have to improve if he is expected to play 20+ mpg. Given that Timmerman currently weighs in at 294 pounds, there may not be many options to guard opposing centers who are particularly tall. Against many centers, you may see Moore or Rhodes or Spear being called upon to do the defensive job when Newman is not in.

Can’t argue with most of the predictions, truthfully. Some freshman classes will have a say in this as well (hopefully a huge boost from Bucknell’s.) Colgate obviously has the talent and experience to be a safe pick as #1. As far as Bucknell players, to me, Sotos has the best shot as a 2nd Team selection. He is the most proven in all areas.

By virtue of their dance performance, and the fact that they are all back, CU should crack the top hundred pretty quickly.

I tend to agree. But don't forget that they graduated their top player by far (Jehyve Floyd) and another who saw top five minutes (Benzan). And then two of their top three returnees (Grandison and Caleb Green) transferred out. In total they only return 35% of the total minutes played from last year.
The biggest wild card is the departure of Carmody and the addition of new coach Brett Nelson, which I think will be an improvement. Also they have added a couple of promising freshman guards.

It is shaping up to be a very competitive PL this year. 'Gate is the team to beat, but Bucknell and American are going to make them earn it.
On the other hand, HC is not feeling the love. With a new coach looking to make an impression, I would be surprised to see them finish last. #6 or #7 is my prediction.

Preseason Predictions for PL from various magazines and websites 10-24-19 03:21 PM - Post#288996

Andy Katz has Colgate as one of "11 college basketball teams we're not talking about enough":
"5. Colgate: The Raiders are the favorite to win the Patriot League again and have the possible preseason player of the year in Rapolas Ivanauskas. Colgate plays at Syracuse, Clemson and Auburn. Win one game and Colgate will get noticed. Win two and the Raiders may find themselves ranked."
https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/a rticle/2...
Amusing that he calls Ivanauskas a possible league preseason player of the year well in a story posted well after Sa'eed Nelson got the honor instead.

I give Andy a pass. He's got a lot of B1G duties these days and the fact that he still tries to keep up with mid-majors argues for him in itself.
