Good to hear. Now that I think about it, we did have our scrimmage today against Bing so maybe it was in reference to the result

Did hear that Avi suffered a broken nose. May refer back to his prior tweet.

Decent info in the article below. Robertson confirms that Funk is starting and Bruce saying that Xander is “most up to speed” I think is the most encouraging part of the article. Without a true backup PG, it would be great to get 10 MPG out of Xander if necessary

No returnee on this year's team has ever averaged double figures. Last year the top three non-seniors were Moore (9.8 ppg), Toomer (8.7), and Sotos (8.2) - all of which were career highs.

Who can guess which Bison team was the last one to have no player who had ever averaged double figures.

Note it’s a TV video report, too. Wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on Newman’s sweet jump hook.

Might have been Muscalas Freshman year. I think Shazier led the team. 09-10?

It is good to hear that Meeks is healthy. Also, I like that Jake van der Heijden is being compared to Zach Thomas. That's a great person to be mentioned in the same sentence with.

The men's and women's teams had a Bison Madness event last night for students.

In one of these photos, you can see Avi wearing a mask. Looks like a surgical mask, or something more elaborate than what one typically sees for a broken nose.

BTW, the media guide mentions in 2 places that Sestina is using his final year of eligibility at Kentucky. I'm torn about this. What does the rest of the board think?

The Sojka Pavilion one? I’d guess around 2007 or 08.

Is it that you’d like them to emphasize that he graduated? I can see that.

Or is it that you’d rather they avoid mentioning him altogether, like a deposed Roman emperor?

Good questions. 1. I think that they should have mentioned that he graduated and was at Bucknell for 4 years. 2. I have a suspicion that they mentioned Kentucky 2x so that potential recruits are aware of how good the coaching staff is at developing talent. 3. Overall, while I wish Sestina well, it bothers me that Bucknell did not find a way to keep him for another year.

Bucknell doing nothing to keep fifth year athletes has become a fact of life. While the other PL schools have all become more athlete-friendly over the past decade, Bucknell has not. There have been a number of cases where athletes wanted to return to use their final year of eligibility and got no cooperation from the Administration. One example was wrestler Tom Sleigh, one of the better ones Bucknell has ever had. He placed 2nd, 5th, and 7th in his three years wrestling in the EIWA's and was a three-time NCAA qualifier. Wanted to finish his career as a Bison but was not allowed. Ended up wrestling for Virginia Tech. I also know of several athletes in other sports who were in the same boat, and I am sure there have been others.

Dr. Bravman came in with a reputation as being at least somewhat supportive of athletics. He did reluctantly OK football scholarships (and the matching women's scholarships) but as far as I know, he hasn't done anything to support athletics since then. There are some small things that could be done that are easy and cost nothing. Others might be less easy, but are very doable and important. For example, Men's lax and soccer are the only PL teams in their respective sports without scholarships. Both have great traditions at Bucknell. Both could raise a lot of money on their own to fund scholarships - but they are not allowed to do so. And in all other team sports other than basketball, Bison teams are funded at below-average PL levels. Results are starting to decline due to the lack of support, despite Bucknell having great facilities (all privately funded) and many good coaches.

Just realized that I never gave the answer. Good guess by Scorekeeper, but not quite right. In Muscala's freshman year, 2009-10, the leading scorer was indeed Darryl Shazier. But he averaged 10.1 ppg. In 2008-09, the season before Muscala's arrival, Behan averaged 13.8 ppg as a junior, and Cohen averaged 11.8 ppg as a frosh.

The correct answer is the 1996-97 season. The previous year the top four Bison scorers were all seniors (B. Anderson, Hamer, Steigerwald, and Golden), all of whom averaged over 9.5 ppg. With all of them having graduated, the top returnee of the 1996-97 team was JR Holden, who had averaged 7.4 ppg as a soph. Things turned out pretty well for that team, as Holden's average rose to 17.8 ppg, while Gordon Mboye improved to 14.8 ppg (and 6.2 rpg) and freshman Dan Bowen averaged 7.4 ppg and 6.2 rpg enroute to PL ROY. The team, despite having lost four senior starters, ended up in 2nd place in the PL with a 9-3 record. Holden and Mboya jumped from role players one year to 1st team All-PL the next. The only negative is that the Bison ended up dropping a one-point decision in the championship game, played at Navy.
