Who's going to be there Saturday? I believe I'll be dragging my fiancée down to get a look at the Quakers. If anybody has anything particular they'd like me to look for, let me know.

I'll be there and, of course, looking to see how recovered Ryan and Michael look. Also interested in seeing Jordan Dingle, especially if he is to be the starting point guard, and MLL, our big man hope for the future after AJ graduates.

I’m going to try and make it there. Like most of us, I’ll be keying on how Wang & Betley look.

Definitely would like to hear how injured folks look - Betley and Wang but also Dingle.
Beyond that would love to hear:
1) If Eddie Scott and Jarrod Simmons made any progress as I think we’ll need their contributions this year to be successful.
2) If any of the freshman stand out and look ready to provide any quality minutes.
Enjoy all!

I have learned the hard way the R&B scrimmage can have false indications as it relates to the freshmen. Last year, for instance, Wang looked great (true until he got hurt) and Washington looked terrible (he ended up starting.)
Prediction: Eddie Scott will light it up, FWIW.

I doubt Dingle will play Saturday. Don’t think he is practicing yet.

I think Michael Wang could sit this one out as well. What’s the upside of having him play? I’d be focused on his health for the opener.

If Wang is not 100% i’d be fine with holding him up as long as it takes, even if that means he doesn’t play until the Wooden games.
I think MLL is the key freshman to watch. He is the most likely to get serious minutes this season if he’s ready. Beyond that, it would be nice to see if the young guards can play D, but we will likely not see much of that on Saturday.

Any word if this is finally the year when the R&B is available for streaming?

No mention of it on the website or the coaches letter. So I assume no.

It's not listed on Saturday's ESPN+ schedule, as well.
Some years, I think they said they couldn't broadcast the event since they were stretched thin covering other events. Since the only games on campus on Saturday are women's soccer at 2 pm and men's soccer at 5 pm, I would think they should have enough equipment to broadcast the scrimmages between 11 am and 1 pm.
Also, I see that the women's team has its opening game at home against Siena during Homecoming on November 9th. The game starts at 12 pm, while the football game against Cornell starts at 1:30 pm.
Couldn't the women's game be moved to 11, so people could watch both games?

who on earth has interest and time to devote 5.5 hours to women's bb and men's football? not very competitive men's football at that!
they did you a favor.

I am not sure the coaches want the scrimmage broadcast. Donahue is pretty old school.

Sorry you didn't make it, Steve. It was good being back in the old place, but it's tough to take very much from the scrimmage. Dingle didn't play, but Wang and Betley both put in significant minutes. Michael definitely looks more ready than Ryan. He ran well, looked smooth on a baseline three pointer, and stepped into a pass for a thunderous baseline drive-dunk. Ryan seemed rusty and didn't appear to be playing all that hard. Bryce hit at least 3 threes that I can remember, but freshman Jonah Charles had four point plays on consecutive possessions! The most impressive freshman was Lucas Monroe from that great Abington team. He's bigger than I expected - same height as Eddie Scott with a broader frame - and has a pretty advanced game for a rookie. AJ showed a very soft touch on his jump hook around the rim and looks primed for a great senior season. Soph Griffin Ryan has a sharp shooting touch, but I wonder if he'll be able to get his shot off against a real defense.
Oh, and how could I forget Mark Jackson who had an entire career in a single scrimmage? A dozen or so points and a few rebounds over AJ, but I doubt we'll see any meaningful minutes from his this year.
By the way, Antonio Woods was sitting in the stands with a ball in his hands looking like he wished he had another year of eligibility. He's not the only one who feels that way.

Lyle - I'd also note that Eddie Scott also hit a couple or three 3s himself and had one really nice drive to the basket where he went up very strong. He also had a couple of steals on defense.
You might also want to note that in addition to Jordan Dingle not playing, neither did freshman Max Martz who was wearing a boot.

Thanks for this rundown. Wanted to get there but some other things took priority.
How did Eddie Scott and Jarrod look? Also was Martz effective?

You're right, Steve. In fact, while I was walking across the South St. Bridge after the scrimmage, Palestra38 called me from his lakeside retreat in the Berkshires for an update. One of my first comments was that Eddie Scott looks like he can play, to which he replied,"He's always looked like it." Maybe he'll get a chance to show it consistently this year.
I also failed to comment on Dev Goodman who already has his lightning quick drive geared up. I can't believe he's already a senior since he only has one year of major minutes under his belt. I see real competition for playing time in the backcourt with the young guys pushing the veterans. That's a great situation to have.

Any info on Max Lorca-Lloyd?
Good to hear that Charles could be a shooter.
I hope Betley's recovery continues. It's a shame - he looked so sharp at the start of last season in his short action before he got hurt. He really appeared in full command of his game. Hope it all comes back this season!
