Well, I thought I would start this thread. Here are a few stats and notes:

Class Pos Ht Wt PPG 3pt% Min USG% OffRtg DefRtg
Kira Lewis So PG 6 3 165 13.5 0.358 31.6 22.6 107.8 105.7
James Bolden Sr PG 6 0 160 12.2 0.349 21.4 28.9 110.1 107.7 WVU Grad Transfer
John Petty Jr SG/SF 6 5 184 10.2 0.345 28.9 19.7 102.4 104.4
Herbert Jones Jr SF 6 7 205 6.4 0.286 21.1 20.8 89.3 100.1
Alex Reese Jr PF 6 9 245 6.3 0.286 13.3 24.9 107.6 101.8
Galin Smith Jr C/PF 6 9 240 3.8 - 13.1 18.1 89.2 105.0
James Rojas Jr PF 6 8 215 Community College Transfer
Javian Fleming-Davis RFr C 6 9 242
Jalen Forbes Fr SG/SF 6 4 186
Juwan Gary Fr SF 6 5 215
Jaden Shackleford Fr SG 6 3 195
Raymond Hawkins Fr C 6 9 240

Alabama just beat up on GA Tech in their exhibition game, 93-65.

Jahvon Quinerly, the Villanova 5*recruit/Transfer, was not granted a waiver to play this year by the NCAA. That decision is under appeal by Alabama. Interestingly, it was his Instagram post after the Penn game last December that may have been his turning point at Villanova.

This will be Nate Oats first game coaching Alabama. He just completed a successful reign at Buffalo where he replaced Bobby Hurley (who left for AZ State) in 2015. Oats took Buffalo to the NCAA tournament his first year by winning the MAC tournament and upset AZ by 21 in the first round. Last year they finished the regular season with a 15 national ranking.

Yeah he is a very good coach and this is going to be a tough task. GT who they beat in that game badly is KenPom 66th pre season... and Alabama is 70th. So facing an athletic Power 5 team on the road with a very good coach (who isn’t going to underestimate a mid major team), is a tough order. Wish it was a Power 5 coach who never was at a Mid Major and much more likely to overlook us. Either way will be a good year and really interested to see what the guys have in them. If we can hit a high % of 3s, you never know.

That was one Purim afternoon I'll never forget.

That game probably earned McDyess millions of dollars.

And we still almost pulled it out.

To give everyone a head start on watching the game:

1. The game is on the SEC Network+. This not the SEC Network. SEC Network+ is an online network. There is no live television as far as I know.

2. SEC Network+ is like ESPN+ with one major exception. There is no subscription fee. However, you may be required to authenticate your right to watch online via your satellite or cable provider.

3. SEC Network+ is part of the ESPN family.

4. The main SEC Network is available to me on DirecTV because I have a qualifying package. That also qualifies me to watch SEC Network+ through the ESPN app.

5. Check to see if you receive the main SEC Network. Then, using your ESPN app, if it works the way it does on my android phone, you can: 1) Tap on the Watch button at the bottom of the screen. 2) Tap on the calendar icon at the top of the screen. 3) Select SEC Network + from the drop down list under "All Networks." 4) Choose the date of Tuesday the 5th. 5) Find the Penn game among the options.

6. A similar procedure works with the ESPN app on my Roku stick. Once again, authentication of my DirecTV subscription is required.

7. Run a test before Tuesday night to see if this works by attempting to watch a live event, via the ESPN app, shown on either the SEC Network or the SEC Network +.

I have also been advised to use this link, Penn at Alabama, on a desktop.

Validation of your satellite/cable provider may also be necessary.

More from the Alabama/GA Tech exhibition game. The key scorers are noted below:
………….... Class Pos Min Pts
Shackelford…. Fr SG 25 21
Lewis…………… So PG 31 20
Petty…………… Jr SG/SF 28 15
Bolden………… Sr PG 18 10
Reese…………. Jr PF 16 9
Jones………….. Jr SF 21 5
Forbes……….. Fr SF/SF 22 4
Smith…………. Jr C/PF 16 4
Davis………….. RFR C 12 3

The leading scorer was a freshman. Most of the scoring came from wing players. They shot 48.7% FG, 45.9% from 3pt., and 80% from FT. They had 44 reb, including 12 OReb. They also had 20 assists and 17 TO.

In addition to hoping for good 3 pt shooting from Penn as suggested by Mike, it will be interesting to see if Penn will/can control the pace and how we do guarding the wings without Woods.

Here is a good breakdown/season preview for Alabama if you’d like more reference for Tuesday:

https://www.rollbamaroll.com/2019/11/2/20944159/al ...

Looks like our guards are going to have to step up on D and our defense in general is going to have to work to deny 3’s because they have some dangerous guards.

I was wondering the same thing. Sounds like they are not as strong inside as they are at guard so could see small lineup with Eddie in there. Based on last year I’d assume Jarrod before seeing that it seems like Eddie made strides over summer, so guess he’d be other likely candidate.

I’m seeing Alabama as 7 point favorite in most places though one spot had them at 10 points.

I see that AJ is now listed at 240lbs. If he's gotten stronger without sacrificing agility, our opponents are in for a series of rough rides.

It’s finally game day. Some questions will be answered tonight, but normally we might expect a longer bench than we’ll see later in the season. I wonder how the 3 point shot will be effected by the new rules; however, a one game sample likely won’t be indicative

As per this article, AJ is seen as a test for the frontcourt players.

Quakers vs. Oats from TideFan.com

I haven't seen any Penn State references, but this was a new one for me:

ONE DAY LEFT ... We are officially UNBUCKELED Bama vs Pitt. This was quickly corrected by other posters.

Not a bad article about the match up until writer randomly starts referring to Penn as Yale halfway through, haha.

Can you also confirm the sighting of balls going through the net?

I think Oats will have his squad fully prepped for us. We had better be ready from the get-go.
