Tomorrow at 6:30 PM.
PSU beat #63 Georgetown on the road by 15 points on Thursday. The Nits are now ranked #33 in the country by Pomeroy, following up on a #43 and a #19 ranking the past two years. Pat Chambers has quietly been doing a good job in an almost impossible spot.
Pomeroy has the Bison as 15-point underdogs. For comparison, BU is currently a 13-point underdog when they travel to the Carrier Dome.

Bucknell Game Article: . Bison visit Penn State on Tuesday
Recent Bison fans may be surprised to learn that this is the 104th meeting between the two schools. For many years they played two games every year (home and home) until Penn State in the mid-70's cut the series to one game a year and then shortly after refused to make the long trip to Lewisburg at all. Up to that point, Bucknell had played them fairly competitively in the years prior to that. Once PSU demanded only home games, Charlie Woollum refused to play them, and the series was not resumed for 17+ years.

Planned to go out to this game but as I’m not able to. Perhaps a good thing because if the Bison play as they did against Canisius, it will be a 25 point loss. Hopefully the turnovers are cut in half, rebounding is solid, defense is better and our shooting remains hot. Otherwise it will be a long game, I’m afraid.

Except for a sloppy stretch with the second unit in a very efficient offensive half. Defensively...I guess we’re really not doing that.

The second unit is letting it slip away again in the second half.

(I replied) Lucky for PSU because most of those Charlie Woollum teams would have beat up on the sorry Penn State teams during those years, no?
Now that they're coming up for air at Penn State, maybe they won't want to play Bucknell at all?

Well a pretty decent first half (maybe not as much defensively) turned into a pretty bad second half. Just couldn’t handle Stevens and Watkins. The second unit didn’t help matters. Not sure this overall performance was any better than Colgate’s.
On a totally separate note, I’m not a fan of the skin-tight uniform look some players prefer.

I was proud of Funk defensively. Thought he was the one guy who took real pride in keeping in front of his man.

Funk is quietly developing into a good all-around player. Tonight he even got some PT at the point. He looked fine there, although he didn't have to deal with any double teams. Giving him some of the backup minutes at that position would give them a better offense than when Rice is in, given his inability to shoot. Having said that, he has handled the ball reasonably well and his defense has generally been OK.

Also good to see some offense from Ben Robertson...he had a good stretch in the first half offensively, even a 3!

54, I was thinking the same thing in the first half. Ben, proved me wrong. He was a big reason that it was a tight game going into the half.
As for the second half, no comment.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Can anybody tell me why Paul Newman was handling the ball 20' from the basket? It happened often. Other than to set picks which quite often end up being moving picks, I can't see any reason to have him out there. He can't hit a shot from more than 10' and his defender plays about 7'-8' off of him.

The kid Wheeler was quick (but not physically overpowering). He went by Rice for layups very easily on multiple occasions. He also struggled against Canisius with penetration and physicality inside. Maybe able to stay at PL level but jury is out for me. Meeks was totally exposed.
When the other team starts the second half and goes 14-15 from the field (not even addressing fouls) and we don’t look to change tempo/our defensive look I get confused. Had same frustration under Paulsen who I really respected as well. This is where we get into the issue of our primary goal being the PL. I don’t think sticking to your guns and working 100% “on your own system†necessarily equates to having a better % chance of achieving that goal (didn’t work a couple of years ago when the HC kid hit the tying buzzer beater falling out of bounds). We should compete tactically to win every game OOC. How does the increased confidence of being successful OOC equate to the same end goal.?
All that said, if we mixed in a bunch of different looks last night maybe we lose by 14, still lose by 28 or actually lose by 42. My point is if nothing changes, nothing is gonna change. That also said, is was clear in H1 we couldn’t stop them and matched woefully with them. Did we really think we were gonna outscore them in H2?

I guess I look at it as a fan and think everything can be modified and counteracted through adjustments when maybe I’m missing the pragmatism of playing up, working our system, learning from the experience and improving and getting our guarantee. Glad PF didn’t think that way.
