Opens Sun Devils -10
Revenge game but I don't believe ASU is that good to lay double digits on the road.
For what it's worth, the Tigers 4 losses have come against teams that are a combined 21-2 so far. Only Lafayette has tasted defeat and they have a W against Pennsylvania,
After ASU the competition becomes easier; those opponents are a combined 10-20 thru Sunday's action. A .500 record heading into the Ivy schedule is well within reach.

I hope that you are right but I am not the least bit optimistic. ASU lost by 3 pts against Virginia on the road and handily beat St. John's on the road. It also strikes me as a revenge game and unfortunately, they may pay us back.
As to the Tiger team, the schedule has been simply brutal and the danger is that players/team lose confidence. I am not sure what was the thinking behind the schedule as this team is not Weisz/Cook. The loss of Schwieger has indeed been an issue.
The team played better during the 1st half of the IU game but they were terrible in the 2nd half. Johns and Wright have been big time disappointment but they are sophomores but not sure if Mitch can keep them playing with this level of competition.
Have always been a Henderson fan but do not think that there are some issues with his coaching this year but there is time to turn it around but just do not see it.
Again, I hope that I am dead wrong -- probably am.

The team needs Johns to get back his moxie or mojo or whatever m-word is appropriate. He is capable of being a tough on-ball defender.

Tigers up 9-4 at the first media timeout, Langborg with 5 and Aririguzoh with 4. Offense looking pretty fluid. Martin with all 4 of ASU's points, he'll be tough to handle all night. ASU starts 0/4 on jump shots

Princeton 16, Remy Martin 8 at the under 12. Martin is 3/6, rest of the team is 0/5. Aririguzoh looks great tonight, 8/5/2 early with a big block as well. Langborg with 2 catch and shoot 3s

Tigers push to a 26-14 lead at the under 8, ASU looking very frustrated on offense and defense. Aririguzoh with another huge block, he's been incredible. An ASU run is surely coming but the Tigers are looking very strong early

29-20 at the under 4. Kellman in for Aririguzoh in the last couple minutes there to get RA some rest, Kellman with a nice offensive rebound. ASU starting to make some adjustments offensively but Tigers have done a great job closing out on shooters and forcing turnovers early

Got ragged at the end.
Now, how to avoid the second half letdown and blowout.
This team has no history, so opposing coaches have had to adapt to what they see in the first half, with great success.

ASU closes the half on a 6-2 run after forcing 3 turnovers on 4 possessions from the Tigers. Still 31-26 at the half, and Friberg and Kiszka had some open looks that didn't drop for them. Encouraging half, but as with Duquesne and Indiana, still 20 minutes to play against a very talented team

Put that half in the time capsule. Very good on both ends by a lot of guys. Three great interior passes, lots of hard cuts clearing away help defenders, solid shooting, D forcing Martin to carry the load for ASU with a little help from White (who looks frustrated trying to deal with Aririguzoh). Could still get more out of Llewellyn and Johns, but pretty good play from Friberg, Lamborg, Morales (love that guy), Evbouwan, etc. ASI pressure picked up in the last few minutes and the Tigers looked a bit off in beating it, but not flustered.

ASU getting hot, on a 17-8 run since the last 2 minutes of the 1st half to make it 39-37 Tigers at the under 16. Aririguzoh just called for his 3rd foul with 15 minutes to play which could be big

ASU up 46-44 at the under-12. Very rough start to the half but a Friberg 3 off an out of bounds play keeps the Tigers within striking distance

Really good push from the Tigers puts them up 53-49 at the under-8 time out. Aririguzoh up to 16 points, 15 rebounds (4 offensive) and 4 assists, he's been outplaying ASU's bigs all night.
ASU also missing lots of close shots at the rim, which also happened in the last meeting

Heartbreaker. This team is way better than the 0-5 record suggests, and the schedule now turns to much more winnable games from here on out. 16/18/5 with 2 blocks for Aririguzoh, 3 big 3s in the 2nd half from Friberg, and Llewellyn had some crucial shots down the stretch too.
Tigers 4/9 from the FT line hurts in a game decided by one possession like this one

Right, more important than whether that shot goes in, is what the younger players showed on the court. They kinda fell apart with Richmond off the court but I think as the young bigs develop they’ll weather that better. Lots of good stuff to take away from the game, have a much better feeling about the season going forward.

Glad that I was so off based regarding this game. Arirguzoh played a very strong game against big time competition. Maybe, there is some hope for this team after all plus it sounds like Schwieger's return is right around the corner.

Loved Evbuomwan's calm confidence getting to the rim on the Tigers' last offensive possession. Tigers really pounded the paint tonight against a big and athletic ASU team. Was definitely not the "traditional" upset bid buoyed by hot shooting, the Tigers took it right at ASU's bigs

Tigers have played a little better with each game and tonight nearly pulled off a big upset. Great energy on both sides of the ball for most of tonight’s game with just a few exceptions. Great coaching by MH to get the team on track. This Tiger team will surprise some people. I’m excited!

Mitch significantly reduced the rotation with no minutes for Wright, 2 minutes for DesRosier, 5 minutes for Barnes and 9 minutes for Johns -- it definitely helped. Morales made a significant contribution but the starters were on the floor for the bulk of the game. When Schwieger returns, the Tigers should have 7 reasonably reliable players.
He may be able to give some minutes to others as the competition becomes slightly more reasonable.
It will be interesting to see how Arirguzoh performs against IL bigs -- Brodeur, Atkinson, etc.

I think the one positive for the Tigers is that this year can be used to develop those other options. Aririguzoh will surely be a big loss next season, but basically everyone around the league is relying heavily on players who won't be there next year. Of the 200 minutes played by Tigers last night, just 58 of those minutes were played by juniors and seniors (33 for Aririguzoh, 18 for Morales, 5 for Barnes and 2 for Desrosiers). Schwieger will take up minutes in the rotation once he returns, but still there's a ton of guys getting invaluable experience this season. The freshman class played 63 minutes last night, and Langborg and Evbuomwan were both really solid in starting roles. It'd be nice to have some more experience, but long term I think the chances for development are high

It appears, although very early, that Evboumwan and Lanborg can play. Additionally and kind of a surprise is how well Friberg is playing other than being a pure shooter. Although not quick or a big jumper, he has been pretty solid as a rebounder and defender. Someone told me that Friberg rarely misses a 3 pt shot in practice -- simply deadly.
The graduation of Arirguzoh will be a huge loss and Evboumvan is simply not tall enough or big enough for non-conference games unless he grows 2 inches and ganins 30 pounds, unlikely. There really is no one else on the bench who is over 6'8" other than frosh O'Connell who is a work-in-progress at best.
Perhaps, Kellman and Evbuomwan could team up as they both have long wing spans and can jump but the Tigers need size. Arirguzoh is only 6'9" but he obviously has bulk and can jump as evidenced by rarely losing jump ball opportunities.
It is possibly but unlikely that Mitch can find a 6'10-11" senior in high school who can play in year one.
Evbuosmwan is impressive as he is multi-skilled but he needs to reduce the number of steps.

Mason Hooks, the center coming in next year, is now up to 6-10. He's an excellent passer and rebounder, can score with both hands, and is very solid physically. But he's not a leaper.

That was a complete turnabout from the previous second-half collapses. They just kept fighting and playing through mistakes and stayed in contention throughout.
Those missed free throws and the bizarre out-of-bounds call are especially painful in a close game. Plus, there's still a lot for the Tigers to work on. But from this game you can sort of see the statue embedded in the marble--Friberg, Lamborg, and Tosan E. look like players who could be very good, and if added to Aririguzoh, Llewellyn, Morales, and Schwieger, that gives a nice nucleus with possible valuable depth from Barnes, Desrosiers (who actually can play), etc.
