Lucas also has the hops. Did anyone else notice the nice move he made with the left hand finish.

Monroe's a lefty. That was his strong hand. Underscores why defenders have to really do their due diligence in pregame prep. First thing you need to know is whether the guy you're guarding is left handed or right handed. That sets up your defensive stance and footwork.

The continuing point of worry:

The 3 seniors: 20-33; 56 pts; 18 reb; 8 assts; 7 TO

All others: 4-14; 12 pts; 13 reb; 9 assts;15 TO

And the biggest worry--a big zippo from Scott and Simmons, with Scott looking totally outclassed with the ball (5 TOs) and Simmons chewed up inside.

The freshmen are OK and will be really good. But we got nothing between the seniors and the freshmen right now, and it appears that that will not change. AJ is playing incredible ball--but who is the guy who is going to help him out if Eddie and Simmons are not getting it done?

I mentioned that Scott did contribute on defense by defending Smith after AJ picked up early foul #1. Eventually Smith got the better of him but considering the height difference Scott did OK out there for a decent stretch and we even managed to grow a lead.

We have guys who can score. The more serious concern is having guys who can defend, especially when AJ is either out of the game or moved off of the opposing center. If Scott can be utilized in this fashion for at least a few minutes at a time that will help.

Eddie had 5 turnovers and zero points in 18 minutes. That's just not acceptable.

Right now it is Simmons who gives us next to nothing on both ends of the floor. And Washington barely got a cameo. Those two non-freshmen concern me more than Scott.

It's hard to have much of an impact in just a couple minutes. I think you just basically want to avoid bad stuff when you just play 1-3 minutes.

Right now the coach is still tinkering with the lineup and waiting to see who recovers from injuruies. However at this point it seems obvious that the 2019 recruiting class is sueprrior to the prior two years.

Slowing down Mannion is going to be a real test of our perimeter D.

BTW, how valuable will Stone Gettings be to Miller and the UA coaches in their scouting report on us? He wasn’t consistent, but had a couple of outstanding games in his Ivy career vs. Penn, including that 20 point/15 rebound/108 ORtg on January 12 last year in The Palestra.

Would not surprise me if Scott will be defending him at least some of the time. Would be something to defend a center and a guard on back to back nights but he’s versatile enough to at least give it a shot.

Well, Scott and Simmons are going to normally be the 5th option, so you don’t expect to get that much scoring out of them. As for the TO’s, yes, Scott had 5 which is too many. However, Dingle had 7 and Brodeur had 4 (of course he was at the center of things, so not as bad). In any case, the whole team had too many TO’s. The good news is that they won the game while clearly not playing their best. I will chalk it up to the travel and the fact that it is still November. In any case, I am happy that they kept their heads in the game. This could easily have gone the wrong way with some of the foul calls and all the To’s.

I can't remember where I saw this now, but someone was saying that they had another flight disaster and didn't get in until 2:30 last night. Thank goodness for Pacific time. Why do the transportation gods hate us, anyway?

It was in the postgame quotes and although last year was way worse, it can’t be easy now having to play at 11:30. They really tired in the second half of game two last year. Going to need a huge Dingle game.

I don't know if you can conclude that the recruiting over the past two years was inadequate given the injuries, especially to Jelani and Wang.

Fair enough. But looks like there may be 5 contributors from the freshman class.

Temple beat UCF by 4 in their conference opener. I would expect the Penn - Temple game to be close as well.
