We lose on another one of those disastrous endings, 67-65. Smith comes down court with the game tied and 30 seconds on the clock, bobbles the ball, and Bryant goes back all the way for a dunk. Brumant had a career high 25, Smith with 22, but like so many times before, we couldn't close it out.

cc66, are you certain that Smith "bobbled" the ball? I thought what happened was that Smith passed the ball to Smoyer at the top of the key and then Smoyer tried to give it right back to him, but it was stolen away by the defender.. Maybe the TV replay will clarify what happened. Anyway, I agree with you that was a disastrous ending, although not unexpected given what we have seen happen repeatedly during the Engles Era.

Next question: Was that the play the Columbia Coaching Staff drew up during the timeout-- Smith to Smoyer to Smith ? Still another question: Why didn't Engles play Nweke rather than Smoyer? Indeed, i don't remember Nweke playing at all in the second half, and, iÆ’ so, why not?

Why was Smoyer in there at the end? And why do we keep repeating the same ending?

Collateral "don't get it question" to yours: Why did Ike Nweke only play eleven minutes and fifty-six seconds last night? So not only was Ike on the bench at the end of the game, but he was there for nearly 3/4 of the game. The only justification that I can think of is that Engles wanted to give Smoyer significant playing time in a non-conference game before the Ivy League season begins next month.

Probably your summary of what happened is closer than mine. I only saw the play once, and my disgust at the ending clouded my description.

And yes, Smoyer instead of Nweke doesn't seem like a sensible choice.

There is no communication between JE and the alumni base; the result is that he does not get the support from that base, apparently because he does not care what we think or how we feel. Contrast that with Al Bagnoli; even in the midst of a disappointing campaign he sits down with campus media once a week, does a weekly letter, and even answers emails! That’s why so many of us love the man and are indifferent to JE. I suggest a week in charm school!

Chet: how do you know JE has no contact with alum base?
For that matter, who is in that group?

Could Ike have been injured? Ill?

BTB: for what it's worth, the game vs. Duquesne Monday will be against another undefeated team; Bryant was.

I know what JE does not do- no weekly letter to season ticket holders, no weekly interview with campus media.
